Default Tactics, tactics, tactics...

Okay, I started do play the game again some weeks ago.
Now I learned how to do Dick O'Kane's (90°), John P. Cromwell (45°) and vector analysis (any angle) attacks.
Now my question is:in which situation you use one or anoher. Or it is left entirely at skipper's discretion?

I use:
DOK - single merchants, small and ligthly defended convoys (99% of times);
JPC - big, highly valuable military targets, heavily defended convoys - in a formation somewhat like this:

.........DD

.....Ship Ship

DD Ship Ship DD

..........DD

...........................me

VA - almost never, only when I screw up my interception route entirely.

So, how are they to be used, how were they used and how do you use it?

(but, I got say, TMO +RSRD + tactics above = lots of fun! PK on - never more!!!)
