Default Sound

I'm happy to report that the sound in SH5 is really great - best sound design in a submarine sim yet!

While many of the baseline sounds are the same as they were in SHIII/IV, the way they're implemented is much better. For example you can really hear the difference in ambience between different compartments. When you walk into the diesel room, you can really FEEL it. Ballast sounds are now actively used. There are a few cool new sounds around the submarine as well. Overall the sound engine definitely got better.
The best news here though is that as the baseline sounds are mostly the same, it will be very easy to adapt some of your favourite sounds from SHIII/IV sound mods and make them even better here.

The real standout so far for me though is the voice acting. Nothing remains of SHIII's robotic voices and even ignoring the RPG stuff, the routine crew responses sound a lot more natural. Lots of useful sounds added "e.g. 'switching to electric motors'".

So again, for some of the shortcomings of the game coming to light, let's not forget the bright spots (or in this case, moody ambient spots) of this one
