Hello all,
I've been playing the heck out of SH3 lately, and I wanted to share a little something with the subsim community. The first U-Boat sim I played was Aces of the Deep (or was it 688? anyway the first one I really dug was AotD). Back in the day I always used AotD's panther emblem on my boat. Since I couldn't find a suitable alternative for SH3, I had to make my own. Surprisingly, I was able to install AotD Command on my XP box (I even still have the old spiral bound manual and fold out patrol-grid map!), and get it to run well enough to take screen shots of the uboat emblems. Most of them were pretty cool. They might not be 100% accurate, and they're all really low res, but they had heart. I've been playing around with my ancient copy of Paint Shop Pro, and learning some new things in GIMP to recreate some of the emblems for SH3. Basically what I'm doing is 'tracing' over the original images to make a vector graphic of the emblem. Then I add a few shading and detail layers to make them look nice. Here's my first attempt, the "Steel Panther". ![]() ![]() Pretty snazzy, no? There's only a couple dozen emblems from the game, total, and I might not get through them all before I get bored and move on to something else, but I'll be sure to post the ones that I finish. The laughing Sword Fish ![]() ![]() ![]() Olympic Rings ![]() ![]() Black Cat ![]() ![]() I've got about 20 left to do if I want to make them all. In the mean time, everyone can feel free to edit, distribute, poke, prod, or fondle the ones that I've posted. I'll try to release these as .tga files when I get further along in finishing them. -Alex p.s. I also wanted to show off my sig, the emblem from U-51, the VIIB I'm commanding in GWX3. She's the boat that sent the Hood to the bottom of Gibralter, and sank the Nelson! (twice!)
