Commanding the type XXI

Hey everyone,

I'm only at my 9th patrol so far but I do enjoy the game very much. I'm in command of a type VIIB with a slowly becoming competent crew. However, I was wondering about the type XXI. Do we actually have a chance to command one for more than a single patrol, like that was the case in SH2? SH2 wasn't so bad even though it was too restrictive but I would have liked to be able to experience command of a XXI a lot more that just for an escape mission. If so, when does it become available?

One last thing. I'm having real difficulties to find convoys. During my nine patrols, I only received one radio message mentionning a convoy, which I managed to catch and score significant tonnage

. I usually run alongside coasts, where I always encounter isolated merchants or warships. Any hint would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch for everything!
