How to change interior

Hey fellow submariners!

I have had SH4 for a while now, and recently a problem occured in the game. Somehow the interior of the Gato class suddenly stopped working!
When I try to start a career or mission with Gato class, it just crashes.
I have tried reinstalling, updating, reupdating and all that, but nothing seems to work. A friend of mine told me that I could change the interior of the Gato to the interior of another Fleet Sub. One that is mostly similar.
So how can I do that? (Detailed instructions please)

P.S I have U-boat missions, but that doesn't seem to have caused the problem...
