Amazing polygon counts. Infantry modeling. Even the jet's canopy opens up...
beautiful smoke trail effects, ship interior modeling......Naval warfare game has never looked so good.

Doesn't that remind you why you like naval warfare and bought DW in the first place?
![]() And did you notice the Typhoon had a waterfall display and it was green........

I'll say only this, the game makers have friggin forgetten that history continues beyond 1945. Every game that has a military aspect in it, is always about WW2.
Naval series such as SH II/III/IV/I (with updated graphics and mods). FPS, even Air simulations. What the hell happened to the Corean War ? Why no love for it ? What about the Vietnam War ? Also forgetten. And the friggin Cold War ? Its as if it has completely disapeared from the collective minds of game designers. It didin't last 2-3-4 years, it lasted half a century !!!! and we have not a single game (simulation) that is based on CW. The game industry should really improve its historical component. |

Yeah, sims/games set in a Korean/Vietnam/Cold War setting are few and far inbetween ... I only know one Flightsim with a Korean War setting and the number of games in the vietnam war setting isn't that high either (at least sim wise - there are a number of FPS games out and about). As far as cold war goes, the only game that comes right to mind would be "Panzers - Cold War" but that unfortunatly hasn't even been released yet. Aside from that, while I'm sure there are one or more games around for that setting I would say that you are right on the spot ... Game/Sim Developers just concentrate on everything else (preferably WW2) opposed to anything that happend between 1950 and 1990 (give or take 5 years on each end).
I'm not sure whats the reason for this ... if I had to hazard a guess I would say that WW2 was the last truly "moral justified" war plus its very well documented and whatever game you wanna make you will find a place for it within the WW2 setting (from FPS to RTS and everything in between and beyond). |

Hey there are Wings over Vietnam, Wings over Europe and Wings over Israel. They are all imo excellent games.
There is also Steel Beast Pro PE and Lock On, Falcon 4 allied forces. It's not that rare to find contemporary military games but most of them are developed by small developers. The wings over series are a one man development team. Oh almost forgot Combat mission shock force. It's one of my favorite.

What DW needs is the permission from SCS to mod it entirely,even if a special SDK has to be released.The following items should be considered;
1- Give the game a GLOBAL shape,not to be attached to specific maps.So,capability to travel the whole globe. 2- Improovement of ALL textures and effecs,so as capability to add more or less detailed ports,naval stations,air bases,cities,....etc worldwide. 3- Addition of more controllable platforms,surface and submarine.This way all forces can have its task inside an inmersive total modern warfare enviroment.To be able to command Anphibious vessels and groups,Carriers and CVBGs. Would that be difficuld to achieve gentlemen? |

Nope I guess not, in a parallel universe maybe. :rotfl: Me I'd just be happy if they upgraded their crappy graphics engine (no, I'm not requesting SH 3/4 graphics) but I'd want 100% support for 32 bit graphics. In this day and age all graphics cards, from top end to low end have basically removed any kind of 16 bit support making the game render worse than its already crappy native rendering. Oh and while we're playing this "wishful game", how about giving support to AA and AF ? How about this : keep the navalsimengine secret, make available an sdk to the game community, and forbid in the license for commerical entities to use it. See its easy, they protect their investment to high paying customers, and make the poor SOBs that bought and supported the game happy. Ok back to reality ![]() Edit : ok last thing, fix those damn bugs that still exist in the frigate. !!!! I've been reporting those bugs here in subsim in the specific official thread and on their forum. Nothing, not a peep. They don't even listen anymore, what proof do we need that they wsimply don't care ? Last edited by goldorak; 11-21-08 at 05:44 AM. |

For example global scale has affects everything. Most 3D games use flat maps, nice rectangular grid, up always is the same direction (lets say z-axis). With global scale you need full 3D coordinates for everything, up direction is different everywhere, rectangular grid is useless, and to top it, all 3d graphics cards work with 4 byte float numbers which are too small to cover whole globe, so you have to do some things manually using double. In simple terms - global scale must be taken into account at the beginning. To modify existing software which does not have it is practically impossible.

Thats absolutely great Dr.Sid!! Ive been having a close look at your project and its promissing.So tell me please,are you going to implement controllable surface units like Carriers and its scort vessels?From which era are we talking about? early cold war,80s,nowadays or ALL TOGETHER? Are the present units in the game going to be really detailed and eye candy?
Hope not being asking too much. Thanks |

I am impressed.Would be nice in a medium future to be able to command Spanish vessels from our Armada like Principe de Asturias R11,Agosta class submarines,FFG7s,F100,.......
This way,with several Navys on it,the game would gain in quality and dynamics. My congrats from Mallorca Sr. |
