Great thread. Sorry to hijack a little bit.
I was wondering if someone could help me out? I am about to start work on two of Revell's 1/144 U-boats: VIIC and VIID. I have in mind to build U-201 and U-214 but I lack reference pictures. Here are the pics I have so far. U-201: ![]() ![]() ![]() U-214: ![]() I am in particular interested if the boats had wire-net cutters while using these camouflages (Revell refers to it as early/late version): U-201 ![]() U-214 ![]() THANKS!

Interesting pic of U-1008, but for some reason though it doesn't jive with the info at uboat.net about U-1008.
http://www.uboat.net/boats/u1008.htm Uboat.net states the boat did not have any patrols, was attacked and damage by a liberator and scuttled by its crew the next day. It's interesting how the picture shows it returning to port with victory flags on the periscope. :hmm: Plus the picture shows the Bull of Scapa Flow emblem, which if I remember correctly, was the 7th Flotilla emblem and uboat.net shows U-1008 belonging to the 5th Flotilla. Of course the question remains, why the 1008 on the conning tower? Maybe uboat.net has some wrong information. Just curious. ![]() Cool pictures nonetheless. ![]()

@Conus000: You'll probably find better answers if you ask it in the modelling forum here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=186
AFAIK, the net-cutter was removed from 1941 onwards in all U-Boats ![]()

If you take a look on the picture the damage seems to be caused by physical contact (ramming) rather than depth charge explosion. According to www.uboat.net the facts about U-46 say "8 Jun, 1941 The torpedoed British tanker Ensis rammed its attacker, the U-46, and damaged its tower and periscope. The damages forced the boat to abort the patrol." I believe that the picture was taken after the patrol in the port. What the number 1008 on the tower means still eludes me though. Unless there are more digits in front of 1008 not visible due the tower curvature. In that case it could mean the total tonnage up to date.

![]() (By the way Jimbuna, where whould you guess that picture of U 108 was taken, it appears to be sinking, and not in a good submarine way) ![]()
