New Ridley Scott project...!!!

And it promises to be a real big one: I just red a small paragraph in my TV magazine, that his film company bought the rights for Joe Haldeman's quite famous Science fiction novel "The forever war", in which Scott was interested since 25 years now. A daughter of 20th Centfox finally helped him to get the rights.

Wowh!

So far, I do not know anything more. But Ridley Scott and this novel sounds like an unbeatable combination. I know the novel, it really is a good one. In Scott's hands it can only turn out a winner.

Edit:
Found this:

But reading this, it may be that the wait will be a long one, since he seems to do a different project first:

Damn, that sounds like a long wait...

VERY COOL! A "dream come true" for me as I've wanted to see this novel on film for many, many years. Haldeman has been one of my favorite sci-fi authors for over 30 years. I read, and still have, the first printing of "The Forever War" in paperback. There have been about 4 re-releases of the book, with various sections added, that weren't in the original book. If one wishes to get the "whole enchilada" look for the version that is "preferred" by Haldeman and has the sections he originally wanted included.

BTW, the Variety synopsis of the novel is WAAAAY to simplistic. It's a lot deeper and if Scott handles it right, should be an excellent flick.

A couple of other "early works" from Haldeman that are worth the read: "Mindbridge" and "All My Sins Remembered".

Looks good. I love Ridley Scotts films.

Wouldn't seeing what he or Bruckheimer could do with Matthew Reilly's Shane "Scarecrow" Schofield series. Ice Station, Area 6 and Scarecrow.

You know that meanwhile Haldeman has worked the forever war into a trilogy, the second part of which also won the Hugo, yes?

Right. He did "Forever Peace" and "Forever Free" as continuations of the originanal storyline. Good reads in their own rights, but IMO, they couldn't match the "magic" of the first book .. I've read all his stuff over the years, but "The Forever War" will always remain my favorite...

Considering that Scott has wanted to do this as a movie for over 20 years, I think he's had a vision of what he wants to do with it. I've enjoyed just about all his stuff over the years so I'm sure we'll be in for a treat...

It is not the novel itself, but basing on the novel. However, as the satire and biting criticism of American TV series cliches ("the young, the candy-sweet and the wonder-beautiful"), love for weapons and violence, and militarism, that Verhoeven turned the story into, I thought it was brilliant, simply that. No wonder that he made himself many enemies with it! Just look at the in-film TV-recruiting-spots and adverts for the military - it's all so revealing and so damn true!
