I see it all the time. Something comes up as a topic in the US - be it some candidate, or some point of debate. People in Germany have NO opinion on it. Because they haven't even heard of it yet, and with most their English comprehension is so limited that they wouldn't even understand CNNi's broadcasting. Not that they would even bother to recieve oversea broadcasting. After all, our media is the most trustworthy in the world and US media is just propaganda. Comes a week, and Spiegel or some other rag belatedly comes up with a "report" or editorial on the issue or candidate. Then, all of a sudden, EVERYBODY knows about it. And, strange enough, they all have the same opinion that was expressed in the article they've read. You can place bets on it - works everytime. That's some enlighted opinion building right there.

Exactly. She was picked for <insert any shallow reason here> and it had nothing to do with her abilities or experience. This was the turning point for me. This is what convinced me that senile old men should not be running this country any longer. We don't need people who have played the game for decades, we need people who want to make a difference.

Picture this headline;

Nov 04 2007 - Governor Sara Palin of Alaska has announced she is running for President of the United States.

How far would she have made it? After the first 5 interviews she would have been a national joke. McCain insulted the collective intelligence of the entire country when he picked her. (It's unfortunate that really stupid people can vote, and it still counts.)

I agree with every word Matt Damon said in this video:

Don't worry Skybird. She will be EASILY defeated in the Primaries. Maybe by McCain!

And even if she is Nominated. Things will be so much better in 2012 that it will matter little.

I think you guys underestimate Palin. Remember that nothing you hear in the media during election season is going to represent anything close to an unbiased viewpoint. Anyone who doesn't believe that just has to look at the mud tossed at their own candidate and judge it's accuracy for themselves.

The woman has an 80% job satisfaction rating among her Alaskan constituents. I don't know about you, but the Alaskans I've met are definitely not the type to suffer fools very well, so anyone that can get that kind of rating must be doing something right.

But, hey believe what you want. Whether she'll be successful or not remains up to the voters of this country.

That is nice for Alaska but for the rest of the nation. Mrs. sees Russia from her house will be nothing compared to even Ron Paul much less the Huckster 2012 or some of these other repub govs ready to have their shot.

The pubs will not be taking any chances in an obviously extremely difficult 2012 election (Solar power will be well on its way to most homes by then, War long ended, etc...)

No thanks. #1 Net gambling is unlawful and #2 I would hate the mere thought of as much of a penny going to you. Matter of fact it makes me sick.

Im pretty sure the Republicans thought it was a good idea at the time.
Probably picked her name out the hat. Then they met her and they no doubt said
"Oh for **** sake"
To late to turn back :p

still cracks me up how she thinks she has some sort of foreign policy experience because she can see Russia from alaska is brilliant.
That says it all.

She's not even politically capable to begin with, like how she thought the VP was in control of the Senate... or how she was unaware of Bush's doctrine/agenda for the United States... or how she's opposed McCain on a few points and publicly admitted it (that's something you just do not do in an election... if you want to win, that is).

For those who believe they could not "hold their own" with Palin read the following and see if you still think she has what it takes upstairs to run a country such as the USA.

Palin and the fruit fly.

A. According to the US Constitution the Vice President "presides" over the senate. Kind of a big word for grade schoolers don't you think? So she substituted "run". YOU are the one using the term "in control".

B. The "Bush Doctrine" is a media invented term that has meant several things over the past 8 years. Asking which one the interviewer was referring to is quite reasonable, unless of course you're pining for a "gotcha" like you are.

C. I find a politician willing to speak her true opinion quite refreshing and McCain, who is an acknowledged maverick himself, has already said that he's fine with it. So how come you aren't slamming for man Biden for knocking another 100 grand off the Obama income redistribution threshold in that speech the other day? The Democrats fail to coordinate their lies? Y'know thats something you just don't do if you want to win an election...

Hehe, it is not half as clever as get-things-done-technocrats believe to ban all "Grundlagenforschung" (pure research?) and focus on product-oriented research only, that under best conditions also is expected not only to lead to a new product to sell right away, but should give the colourful box and the advert printings right with it. Maybe one must not know the detailed linking between Down syndrom and fruit fly research, but nobody knowing the basic importance of pure research would have used that attempt of a argument from the very beginning, knowing that even if he does not know the details of a given story nevertheless there could be such implications.

"Spießbürgerlich", "kleinkariert", and a hypocritic, underhanded "Moralapostel", that'S what she is, being chosen to serve as an eye-catcher only, and now mistaking it (in a fit of megalomania and craving for attention)with seriously thinking to have been picked to save the world.

Plenty of Zeroes in politics and many ridiculous and narcissistic people, but she really scores as a special example of that kind.
