Default They just don't get it

Well, EA finally responded to the uproar surrounding Spore. I think they have their heads up their butts for the warmth. They will never get it. This DRM is utterly useless.

Nice 'made up' percentages there from EA, what a load of....

Yep, really effective DRM there:

Meanwhile internet reports suggest that Spore is headed for becoming the most downloaded game of all time on Torrent sites, having apparently already soared past 500,000 downloads. Ouch.
P.s. It's way more than that.

Think I'll wait for the GOTY version with no DRM at all.:p

The funny thing is that this DRM thing isn't stopping even slowing down the pirates

And the fact that the DRM probably increased the piracy rate for Spore by a good deal

Pirated gamers don't care about DRMs they play the game and enjoy it. Some buy it and crack it other just download the hot items hehehe.

I have it from an absolutely reliable source that the number of illegal downloads of Spore has exceeded 1 trillion times already (September 16). Shocking

1 trillion?

1,000,000,000,000?

There are, what, 6-7 billion people in the world?

It doesn't add up

Ah, I see, the Aliens must be playing Spore!

Your source is wrong. My source shows ~310 000 downloads on one place, maybe 2x that on another place, so more like 1mil. :hmm:

Or some lowly humans are using download managers to download from several sources at once.

what of the DRM software embedded within SPORE? reminds me of silent hunter 3...

Monica, replies:

With SH3, you only had to get past the StarForce hurdle [always related to the type of CD-ROM mfg. you had] to install it and the game works even under Vista, today. Install/Reinstall all you want it ... works. My Vista rig with SH3 - Zero problems - play it off and on - I now prefer SH4 - Wolves of the Pacific.

But now, it seems like our EA buddies let you have three [3] installs .... and that is it! Buy the game again if you want a fourth install/reinstall.

Continuing my attitude to NEVER, EVER buy another EA game, EVER again.

Give Page 2 for a "look-see" - for the detailed info that YOU may want.

http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...2330377,00.asp

Best paragraph is the last one:

"So thanks, EA. Thanks for trying to put a stake in PC games—something I've loved for years and wrote about for over a decade. Thanks for nothing. "

EA isn't the only one trying to kill PC market.

There is a war on for games and the console powerhouses are pulling the levels to slowly kill pc games.

But pc has always been the underdogs and will survive.

According to Mariam Sughayer, a representative from EA's corporate communications, only one percent of gamers tried to install the game on more than three PCs. Just 23 percent of buyers even tried more than one install, while 77 percent only ever installing the game once.
Ummm.. yeah.. but how long has the game been out ? And what if people want to upgrade their computers ? The average person buys a new system every five years. That copy protection is crap and I hope that game tanks.

Long time ago in another board i read about someone theory about the DRM.

He thought publishers adding such DRM to their game were not doing that to counter piracy, as with a simple usage of google they could easily notice the pirated copies of their products floating everywhere around the internet and their protection were removed by the pirates.

His theory was about the DRM being there to prevent the customer to sell the product he bought from the publisher to another individual.
Because such kind of second hand sales does not give back money to the publisher.

Recently i noticed this article
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/article...ical-situation

And what is the company whinning about second hand sales in that article ... EA, the same ones that obviously insist in putting DRM on products that are already pirated and their protection bypassed.

It seems to give more weight to the DRM against second hand sales instead of piracy counter theory.
