Critical info for all vista 64bit user

It might apply to xp 64bit and vista 32bit user as well:

Til today i used winrar 3.71 to unzip everything for sh3/sh4 using vista 64bit. Since i began to modify the stock games with those exiting mods i was shaken by unexplainable bugs, glitches, CTDs etc.

I had as usually issues with adding new available mods. Then i made due to being nerved and unconcentrated a new approach to fix it using 7 zip accidently not winrar and ...... I couldnt believe it , all those glitches were gone !

Exited by it i dumped my existing installations and reinstalled them from scratch using 7 zip and the downloaded compressed files. Im powerplaying NYGM and GWX on seperate puters for 3 hrs now and havnt encountered any of the previous anomalies so far.

I strongly recommend to everyone using the same OS to redo their installation this way. .... but i wont take any responsibility if u screw up of cause

I'm a vista 64 user. The only problem I have with sh3 is black artifacts blinking all over the sky from time to time, specially on the horizon, but I didn't uncompressed anything WITH vista 64, I've just copied the game and all its mods from the old computer to the new one, not re-installing anything. Do you think it's worth a complete reinstall?

I am sure winrar is the troublemaker when used on this OS to unzip files. I browsed through certain user forums and they recommend to avoid it on 64bit systems. Afaik there is no 64bit version of it. The current beta version doesnt support it yet.

To copy or to use already processed files by winrar where the old OS was used is a safe bet. Otherwise i would be in big trouble. I have terrabytes of datas where it was used.

An exception might be the zipped files with .7z extension. I would reinstall those mods.

since i changed to vista64, many problems have gone, for example frame rate stuttering at night with many convoy search-lights on. but i think, the reason are the drivers or directX, which may be a little bit different from their 32bit-versions.

i use 32bit-winrar, too, on vista 64, and have no problems.......
