Default Jamie Oliver slams UK for its booze culture

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has criticised the UK for its alcohol culture and poor cuisine.
In an interview with Paris Match magazine, Oliver suggested people in the UK cared more about getting drunk than they did about eating well.
The chef said there was a better variety of food in South African slums than in English towns and cities.

"variety" does not necessarily mean healthy. In the slums of SA they eat anything from sheep heads to insects. In fact, if you were brave enough to eat some of that stuff your stomach would come away thinking that Scottish haggis was the last word in high cuisine.

Just another jerk with a flagging career trying to stay in the news making flamboyant remarks. If he was so series about his school dinners campaign he would still be pressing hard and punching all the way. But no just another stunt by a jumped up little tit head.

He should put his money where his loud gob is and bloody well stop farting around like a prat he is. Do something instead of acting like a jerk, the man is a arsewipe lackey turd.

Maybe that dirt bag never had good beef wellington. It was great in England, not to mention the awesome fish and chips. The crap here in america is not even close to what i had in England. The Pubs (which is where I lived when off duty) was the best. I loved playing darts and partaking of a pint or two and found it to be a wonderful culture of people who think a lot like i do. Of course i will never get used to the idea of calling a cigarette a fag, but that is okay. Please do not allow the muslim invasion to ruin your country.

I also think this is more about Jamie Oliver than it is about alcohol.

Forgive me as I may be getting my British jerks confused... but is he the one also saying that it should be illegal for restaurants to sell food out of season?

Or is that a different jerk?

No, that was Ramsay - who has an even bigger ego than Jamie. Love to know what Gordon Brown said to him.

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay says British restaurants should be fined if they serve fruit and vegetables which are not in season.
He told the BBC that fruit and vegetables should be locally-sourced and only on menus when in season.
Mr Ramsay said he had already spoken to Prime Minister Gordon Brown about outlawing out-of-season produce.

Well he has a point but it's not only applicable to England in that family meals and fresh food have been trown out for prepared processed food and poor nutrition. It also seems to me some of you have complained about the UK's alcohol problem as well.

Ok so does this mean Indian, Chinese and other restaurants will be banned then?

Good point. Plus, if fruit and vegetables are to be locally-sourced does this mean any foreign fruit or vegetable which cannot be locally grown because of unfavourable English climatic conditions becomes verboten.

Here in South Africa I would say meat, starch and maize would be the largest part of a South African's diet. Meat would run through from Beef, sheep, pork and game.

And it is wrong and I don't understand why. There are lots of good British dishes, fro Haggis, which made properly is nice, to Lancashire Hotpot, toad in the hole. A good British casserole. I could go on.

Personally although I know that proper French cooking, and I mean the country stuff is really good and similar to British country fare, the stuff we see over here is the nouvelle cuisine crap with a small piece of food covered in a sauce and a couple of twigs of lettuce.

I have heard French complain that our food isn't fancy, with different sauces etc. Well as I read once, UK food didn't have to have fancy sauces because the natural ingredients - meat, vegetables etc - due to our climate and soil were so good. Unlike their stuff. So come to the UK and I'll show you some good UK food.
