Default Missing Voice Sounds Pacific Fleet side, v15

Strange thing i noticed today, my "crash dive" and "blow ballast" voice is missing from the helmsman, his lips move but the sounds do not play. can anyone think of how i can fix this?

so far ive loaded a fresh copy of the V15 english Speech Folder
deactivated ALL MODS, and ran it again from a fresh start and still had no luck...

oddly enough, the voices work (in german) for my multi SH4 german install....

well when i searched "blow" from each of the speech sub folders some folders only had 2 files associated with the speech item, others had only one. In my experience with the german sound fix, most files typically have 3 tones. I duplicated and renamed some of the existing blow ballast files and got the helmsman to talk, but its the wrong tone.

this is off a fresh 1.5 install?! i have no idea how there can be missing files?!

the only thing i can think of would be for someone to email me their crash dive and blow ballast files ( i assume three from each sub folder) for me to fix this. im not sure how this could possibly be occuring....

ideas?

This has just started with my game too. It was only after I started using TMO and RSRDC. I disabled TMO (not quite ready for it yett) but still hae RSRDC on it .I'm running 1.4. TMO has some custom crash dive/blow ballast sounds, could that be it?

im working on this issue still, seems like i got the sounds back but only after starting a new career. a fresh install, and launch of the current career made no difference.

even using current career, re launching from the office did not help, had to start a whole new one over....

this was done off a new install with no mods applied. I wonder if it can be related to a corrupt crew member or position during a save at some point? but youd think that would all be reset after departing from port.....

(MODS: please feel free to move this to the general forum, not sure this belongs in the mods forum)

sounds like you guys need to also post this in the rsrdc thread so it can be looked at. if rsrdc is showing a glitch they need imput from you to investigate the problem and come up with a fix for everyone. we all need to work together to make all mods the best they can be.

i dont think its related to RSRDC, because i dont use it. this doesnt appear to be a mod related issue....

To me it happens sometimes when coming out of time compression so I wonder if that may be part of the cause.

Nice find fearless, after reading your post i started some tests with what i thought were corrupt saves. It seems Time compression is just a contributing factor here.

what im finding is that this is associated with the crew "shift". The shift im starting off with, say shift 3, is the only one that will voice the missing commands. once the shift rotates to shift 1 or 2, you lose the voices.

which mods are you running?

can someone maybe shed some light on this? ideas?

i got the command room to say the commands if i manually put sounds in the sound folder, its as if the speech file is missing certin sound files for the particular 'tone' of voice. But a fresh install, the speech file should be perfect, especially with no mods.

this is driving me mad.

my install order was SH4 off the original CD, then without lauching, just installed 1.5 ontop of that.

for someone who DOES NOT have this problem, is there a way to run a program (like winmerge) that will itemize your speech folder into text list that i can use WinMerge to analize the two file sets?

Hi ATR,

Edit: Should have read the thread more thoroughly!!

Here's my observation:

Looking at the status bar on window explorer reveals that speech folder "1" has 1064 objects, whilst folder "2" has 1092 objects. Therefore, 28 .ogg files are missing from folder "1".

Now, here's the killer!

I've also have Spax's german speech pack. Each of the speech folders has 1206 ogg files.

This leads me to speculate that not only are the speech triggers borked in SH4, the US speech pack is incomplete with some speech phrases completely missing.

Since SH4 randomly assigns voices to a given figure, if your engineer guy is assigned a voice folder that is incomplete, you won't hear certain phrases. When the watch changes, and the engineer for that watch is assigned a more complete speech folder by SH4, you'll hear the phrases.

This I think is a stock issue, not anything to do with any mod packs.

Maybe the only way round it would be to go through the german speech pack and compare it against the US speech folders and see whats missing.

Thinking about it, SH4's speech folders are the same as SH3's, so maybe the US voices being incomplete is a legacy of SH3 - meaning you supposed to play SH3 with the german voices enabled, so the fact that the US voices being incomplete wouldn't be noticed?

Maybe some one with SH3 installed should do a test and play it with the US voices enebled to see if there's anything missing?

Hope that helps,

Mike.

i think we're on the right track here, but i dont recall this ever being an issue until recently. perhaps my install order of going from SH4 1.0 directly to V1.5 screwed something up?

i agree that there is something missing in the speech folder. if i could find the righ speech tones id gladly go through the effort of putting them back.

yes, after learning to work with the SPAX speech fix, there are typically 3 voice styles in each speech folder, for some reason we have a few missing here or there out of the stock set up?!

Sorry ATR!

Check my post again - I was doing an edit when you posted.

That last bits a random thought regards SH3.

What's your thoughts?

Mike.

on my other rig i just installed 1.0 and patched to 1.4, same effing problem.

Ive been playing, modding, and using this game since its inception i dont remember this problem im particular but its certainly occurring at the most basic level.

im going to have to go through the speech files, and try and manually match the tones with existing files, then rename/copy them, which is going to seriously suck.

looking through the "blow ballast" file alone, some folders contain 1 version, other folders contain 2.

I - ASSUME - the file should have three versions
k Normal tone
p Stress / yelling
s whisper / silent running

blowing the ballast is a pretty big deal so they dont have a silent running file for it, so that rules us to two required files per tone the K and P's

from what i can tell the following folders are missing the "k" version of the file; 1,3,4,6,7,9
folders 2,5 and 8 seem to be fine.

i will go through and try to match up the sounds and create the missing files, from what i can tell the only sounds that are getting missed are BLOW BALLAST and CRASH DRIVE from the control room, i'll try the same with crash dive. and report back....

Well I made a fix. I cant believe the few of us are the only ones having this problem, im floored that either, i JUST now started to notice it, or that it recently showed up and its an issue thats being reproduced on two computers one with a 100% stock install.

The fix i made is simply a patch, for the US side. Since the German files seem to be working flawlessly.

Directories 1 3 4 6 7 & 9 were missing "Blow Ballast" & "Crash Dive" "K" tones. which is the normal tone of voice for that particular voice pitch. I simply created the K version of the file using the "P" version that was existing. The P version is the stressed one. I think you can get away with it because blowing the tanks is a pretty big deal, so its going to be said with some emphasis either way. I also needed to put the fix in for crash dive which i did the same way.

if you guys want i'll upload it to file front. im shocked no one else has chimed in here.....

Go ahead and upload it - sounds good!

Hmmm....:hmm:

I remember someone a while back writing that there were 3 "base" voices in the speech set. Methinks then that 2,5 and 8 are probably the base three voices with the other six folders being the voice sped up or slowed down for the "squeeky" and "deep" variations.

Maybe no-one else has chimed due to the fact that everyone knows that there's something wrong with SH4's sounds. I vaguely remember that the speech problems were reported fairly soon after the games release.
