I can't seem to get the PK Range to reset back to zero. The lowest I can get is 220 yds. :hmm:
Before I begin setting up any manual solutions the PK is always set to 0 speed and 0 Range. Getting the speed back to 0 is easy enough but what about the range?...is it possible to reset to 0000?...If so...How? (not that it really matters much in setting up other firing solutions..mostly I'm just curious) TIA found nothing about this in SEARCH...btw...

The short answer is no. In order to get zero out of the stadimeter the angle measured would have to be 90º. Since your periscope's field of view is only 20º or so at low magnification, you can't get the stadimeter to measure below 20º angle differences.
The long answer is yes. By grabbing the clear plastic triangle and dragging it up to zero you can perform this interesting but useless function! ![]() ![]() Oops, looks like 220 is the minimum on the scale, doesn't it? Never mind!:rotfl:

Is there a reason you want to set it to zero, or is it some personal quirk?

Dummy me.. I forgot to include:
There is a way to reset to zero without saving and reloading..it is what got me wondering about this to begin with. ![]() I was conducting a convoy attack, manual targeting, and used up all 6 forward shots. While in a frenzy of turning 180 degrees about and setting up/switching to the aft tubes I glanced at the PK and saw the RANGE had reset to absolute zero. It Read 00000! I had a fleeting thought of "how in the world did I do that" but had to go about the business at hand, so I didn't have a lot of time at the moment to consider it deeply. The short of it is...there must be a way to do this, but danged me if I can figure out what it was I did. ![]()

I'm glad there are people who are curious. It leads to innovation!

I haven't checked if this is possible, but perhaps you clicked on send range/bearing to TDC from the sonar screen, without having done an echo ranging?

:hmm: ..I may have found a way to set to zero but I have not experimented with it yet.
In the Dials Config file there is an entry down around 58 or 59 that establishes the Range limits from 11,000 to 220 if I recall correctly. Could be that changing the 220 to simply zero might work...then it would be as simple as resetting the speed to zero. Maybe not. Maybe I'll give 'er a go when my curosity gets the better of me. ![]()

Final Answer to original question:
YES... ![]() ![]() I just needed some time to sit down and figure it out. Now what can I do with it that I couldn't before? ![]() ![]()

My brain space is limited, I can only stuff useful info into it now.
BTW, here's a section from Arthur Conan Doyle's "A Study in Scarlet" (Sherlock Holmes): [Holmes'] ignorance was as remarkable as his knowledge. Of contemporary literature, philosophy and politics he appeared to know next to nothing. Upon my quoting Thomas Carlyle, he inquired in the naivest way who he might be and what he had done. My surprise reached a climax, however, when I found incidentally that he was ignorant of the Copernican Theory and of the composition of the Solar System. That any civilized human being in this nineteenth century should not be aware that the earth travelled round the sun appeared to me to be such an extraordinary fact that I could hardly realize it.
