I've just found out that JoWood are going to be releasing a free Community Edition of Soldner! If you've never heard of it, it's basically a free roam fps/tps set in 2010. You have an area of about 22000 sq km to freely roam about, with summat like 70 vehicles and 100 weps to pick from. Everything is fully destructable, from trees to buildings. It's probably the only game I've ever played with such freedom, you do actually get to choose how you want to complete a mission. For example, the other day I had to destroy a fuel tank and a building, so I got in a helo (a Little Bird to be precise), flew over to my target, loosed a few rockets and blew the fuel tank to smithereens along with some enemy armour lurking around it. I then had the building to contend with so I flew back base where I landed and chose a land vehicle. I think I ended up with a Challenger, so I drove over to this building fired my gun at it a bit. Didn't do much, just blew a few holes in the side, so I got out of my nice big tank and threw some C4 through one of the windows. It blew the roof off, but not much else. Then I remembered that I'd discovered how to call in airstrikes. Sorted. Then back to base. The amount of hardware on offer is pretty impressive, from P90s to Panzerfausts, BMPs, BRDMs, Land Rovers, Challengers, Hummers, Apaches, Black Hawks, Chinooks, Harriers, A10s, there's even a Lada, to name a but a fraction. All easily accessible from little stations dotted around the map.And as I said, they are releasing a free to download Community Edition which will feature a new physics engine and ballistics, hopefully for release in a few days. Keep your eye on http://soldner.jowood.com/ for info.

I tried the game on release and hated it so much I totally forgot about it. I remember reading previews for the game years before it was released and saying "cool, Flashpoint with working multiplayer." Whoops the UI was unusable, the gameworld bugged, and the physics wonky.

Yea I remember trying it around release. I think I played a demo. It was such a god-awful game. I couldn't play it. Whenever I was able to join a game it lagged so much it was unplayable. Yup, all I ever was able to do with that game was to edit the soldner avatar. I wonder if they ever improved it/patched it and made it worth a damn.
