I know this is not a modding issue, but I wonder if anyone out there has had a problem such as this with both SH3 and SHIV.
I have been using an ATI Radeon 850 quite happily until recently. I started getting the intro movie (on both Silent Hunters) in 16 bit colour (or less) and the sim hangs at various points before actually getting into a mission/campaign with a VPU error. OK - I bought a new card (ATI 3650) and I am getting the same on that. I get about 1 minute into a campaign and the screen blanks, monitor goes into powersave, end of story. SH4 is the same ![]() Has anyone any experience of this, and better still any solutions? Thanks MLF

The low colour depth issue suggest something you installed could have corrupted your graphics card drivers :hmm: a suspect I consider even more justified since your new card -same brand, ATI- suffers the same problem.
Try first of all to re-install directX with latest updates and uninstall & reinstall again your video card drivers. If you installed some program to watch video that ships its own codecs I would suggest also desinatlling it temporarily while you do your testings. Re-installing SH3/4 could also help once the above is done, who knows where your system might be storing incorrect instructions for the game engine. Hope that helps ![]()

I too had some similar ATI problems with this before.
(That made me go to the Omegas):hmm: Try this: -Put the catalys AI. to Standard or Off. -Tripple buffer Off -Make sure alternative pix centre is Off! -Smoothvision off There was another option to be turned off, but I simply cannot remember which one! This one caused SH3 to crash after the first loading bar; for me! Sorry! It's been a while!

Hitman, Myxale
Thank you both for your replies. With the new card I uninstalled the old drivers, and put the new ones on. Haven't tried Directx re-install. Will try other suggestions tonight. Regards MLF

When you uninstalled the old suite did you also use the utility that removes all trace drivers? Driver cleaner also works.
Just thinking there may be a conflict. I recently also bought a 3650, upgraded from 3200. Used the cat-uninstaller and grabed fresh drivers from amd-ati, avoided the bloated drivers off the cd. SH3 plays great, don't have IV yet.

Thought I'd give you an update on this and share my grief, sorry I mean findings. After battling for a month trying to understand why I'm getting an ati2dvag.dll system crash, and following all the internet advice about installing latest drivers, and how ATI and Microsoft can't get it together and come up with a driver solution
![]() ![]() The card I have is an ATI HD3650 which has a minimum requirement of a 300W power supply - That is not accurate. I had a 350W power supply and this could not drive the card. Its quite amazing really that everything works fine until 3D kicks in and then only a certain part of the system shuts down leaving hard drives, fans etc still running,. You would think that if the power supply couldn't hack it, everything would give up the ghost!! MLF
