Default Different torpedoes

I'm new to the game still haven't been doin more than 5 patrols max.

In my American career I got the choice of 2 torps: Mk10 and Mk14.. why would I wan't to choose the mk 10? It's slower still steam and less range.

Also is there a complete list/picture (like in SH3) on all the upgrades?

If you are playing with Dud torpedos on in your settings. both in game
and historically the mk 14's suffered from tremendous teething problems.

and although after almost two years of work to correct the errors, It
became a fine weapon in the end. It was as a result of its early and
persistent issues with both the torpedo and its pistol/s, that , in the final
analysis it wasnt really trusted by the skippers as much as maybe it deserved.

During the first 18-24 months of the war, despite its limitations, the
mark ten was a more reliable weapon if you wanted to say ...sink a ship
or something.

Adding to Mush's statement (which is a short version/spot-on synopsis ) the Mark 10 was a smaller torpedo than the 14. I think it was only 18 feet long. Both were 21" diameter. The Mark 10 was designed for the Old S-Class boats which were not able to use Mark 14's (too long for their tubes). Naturally--most of the 10's were than alotted to that class of submarine although there was at least one instance I remember where a fleet-type boat also took a few 10's on board because there weren't enough 14's available.

The 10 was more reliable early war although it too ran about 5-10 feet deeper than it was set to run. Contact Pistol only--they didn't have the Mark VI Magnetic Exploder--so they were immune to that nasty piece of hardware.

Cheers!

That's how I do it . And I even start out the war using the Magnetic Exploder because I am "ordered" to. It's kind of like throwing myself down the stairs, pretending I didn't know they were there :hmm:. I get 1 or 2 ships a patrol by following orders, more when I set torps according to what I know now...

EDIT: The S Boats are fun to play though. Until you get pinned down by a couple nasty escorts anyway... And when you play them, try not using your fathometer. They didn't have them.
