Default Alaska class BC

Hi everyone!

USS Alaska CB1

I've found some info on those big ships, they was semi-unknown for me;
Short life for those giants (1944->47); BTW they're nice, aren't them?

USS Guam CB2

Nice-looking ships, but neither of them served in the Atlantic. A bit of a non-starter for SH3 really - if you were thinking of doing a model, that is.

TBH I kind of agree. I like the model but they weren't very important vessels with respect to the Battle of the Atlantic. If you really would like to design another major warship, how about one of these:

HMS Ark Royal
HMS Renown
HMS Eagle
HMS Glorious/HMS Courageous
HMS Furious
HMS York
HMS Audacity
USS Texas
USS Ranger
USS Nevada (Post Pearl Harbor Refit)
Atlanta Class (USS Juneau served in the Atlantic before her sinking)

Hi!
I also agree; for now i'm not looking for this model; it is not priority, as IAMBECOMELIFE said.
I just think it's strange how those giant battlecruiser have been "forgotten" from the history (maybe for the really short lifetime)

BTW for now i've 2 WIP models to finish and a couple of really interesting requests (RMS Laconia, and a BR carrier for example); a battlecruiser should require too much time.

The Alaska Class was my favourite warship of WWII.

A British Ark Royal would be very welcome for the game

The Alaskas have been described by at least one pundit as white elephants, which is a pretty fair assessment. Not really battlecruisers, more like super-heavy cruisers, they were unmanueverable and had cruiser level armor (compare to Scharnhorst and Dunquerkue) and their best role by the time they came active was as carrier escorts. Pretty but pointless.

Yes, they're a great example of "a solution in need of a problem".

I always thought it would be a priority for modelers to do all the ships which were actually sunk by U-boats - Ark Royal, Eagle, Courageous, Barham for a start - but no one seems interested, which is strange to say the least.

One thing I've always secretly wanted is a redesign of the Flower-class model. The stock one, carried over to GWX, looks like a bathtub toy - World War II by Fisher Price, if you like. And before anyone says it, no, that's not what the real ones looked like either

Can't disagree with you there.

I actually did start a new Flower Class model several months ago, in hopes of producing a version that could have the pennant numbers on the hull. It has been postponed because of other commitments but I will try to finish it.

The biggest problem was many 3d modelers couldn't import thier models.
And the guys that could import don't do much 3D work.
At lest till lately.
With some good tools out there now and all the cross help?
Things are really winding up!!

I've got some links to blueprints and photos of BC Alaska from old Russian shiplover periodical. Here they go:
http://www.wunderwaffe.narod.ru/Maga...ures/index.htm

As for HMS Furious, weel respected Sergbuto used to post some screens of her, but regretfully didn't released this units for several years by now.

Although virtually unknown as a class...I've always thought (since I was 10 years old in 1975!) the Alaska was one of the most beautiful warships ever built.

Not too sure of it's capabilities, but man, what a sexy ship!
