Default Leaking fuel tank

Saw a few other posts about this, but nothing that satisfies my question.

My mission was to penetrate Osaka's harbour and take photos. Mission accomplished!

We left the harbour and I plotted a course for Pearl at the lowest possible speed setting. I didn't do anything else, just set a course for home after leaving Osaka to get the photos back to intell. I think we still had a nearly a 3/4 tank full of gas to start the return journey.

I didn't even make it back to Midway (not even halfway!! haha). The gas just evaporated from the tank. We had no damage, only travelling at lowest possible speed and in a direct line.

Any ideas?

I believe that the lowest possible speed isn't actually the most fuel efficient speed. The Trigger Maru mod changes the ahead standard speed to be the most fuel efficient speed, which is about 10 knots, but I'm not sure about other mods.

RFB also runs efficiently at Standard Speed (10 knots). None-the-less, with that much gas, I'd think you should be able to make the return trip pretty easily... Sorry--no idea why it happened.

Yeah, it's just very strange. I've always come back from Japan at 1/3 speed when I have it the tank at half or less and it was no problem. But last night, with lots of fuel and at same speed setting it was like someone had pulled the plug out of a bath and you can just see the water drain out really quick.

I had the same problem in an older patch. After checking if I was sailing against some current I started leaning on the (completely unfounded) theory that loading a save game where I was submerged somehow made my boat go at submerged speed at the surface.

Did you take any damage to the batteries during the mission? You could try disabling recharging the battery - that always seems to help me when I need to get the most out of my fuel.

Did you have the charging batteries button stuck to on instead of off? I've had this happen once (after taking an ass kickin' from a couple of dessies though) that my batteries would only charge to 76/100 BUT the button would be on and I'd have to set it off myself.

No, there was absolutely no damage to my boat for the entire mission.

I've never touched the recharge button at all, not even once.

I've had that happen to me as well. But like everyone pointed out it's generally when you have taken battery damage and they wont recharge back to 100, they may go to 99%, but it won't turn the charger off unless it hits 100% charged. So, running with your battery charger on uses the same fuel as running at ahead flank.
