Fortunately for Mr. Jackson, Obama is not going to win. I'm tired of hearing that there is some doubt as to the outcome of the election.
As much as I hate to say it, there are a lot of swing voters who will not vote for him just because he is black. Not that I agree with any of his views or think that he would be a good prez, but the aforementioned will be what keeps a lot of people on McCain's side or will simply cause them not to vote.
The same force that makes soccer moms lock their doors when they stop at an intersection where a black guy is standing will influence their vote. And they may be nice and really decent people who would never think of discriminating against someone because of their skin, or anything else, and yet in the privacy of the booth they will rationalize their vote over to McCain, probably without even realizing why.
Further exacerbating Obama's problem is the fact that whites have a higher voter turnout rate. So do Republicans.

I would kind of like to see a black president, but I would rather it were Colin Powell.

:rotfl: I am really sick of the racial politics here (in the US, not subsim). And I'm frankly sick of the whole PC movement. It's just a subversive way of stifling free speeech. So, to have someone who keeps fanning the flames of racial hatred/distrust get burned; priceless.

Teddy Roosevelt once said that hyphenated Americanism could destroy this country. People need to stop thinking of themselves and their fellow citizens as "Black-Americans" or "Irish-Americans" or "Mexican-Americans" etc and start seeing themselves as just plain old "Amercians".

Unfortunately, the trend seems to be towards individual identification and not assimilation. (sp? damn double consenants) Funny thing is, a lot of -Americans have never even been to the regions they hyphenate their nationality with.
Furthermore, what about a person who was born in England but has Indian heritage? Or a person who was born in S.Africa but is the descendant of Dutch colonists and is white? I find it hard to believe that either of them would have an easy time of claiming themselves to be European or African -American respectively.
Most of this PC garbage serves only to widen the gaps between cultures and races, rather than narrow it. I call it the "Catholic Schoolgirl phenomenon" (sry Catholics, no offense. Please let me know if I am out of place.) The more you make natural tendencies of people taboo or try to control their lifestyles the more impassioned and contrary they become, despite what you may see them doing under scrutiny of others.

I agree about the hyphens. I've actually heard people refer to African-Americans and then be corrected with "No, he's African. Not American at all."

I've always thought Jesse Jackson was a nutjob, grandstander and pot-stirrer. Funny that he was corrected by Al Sharpton, who's even worse.
