ZoneAlarm 7 - Some advice please.

Hi, I started a new thread because of the problems relating to ZoneAlarm 7, the program list had just about every exe on the PC listed, so I started to delete the ones that I thought would never have access to the web (you can do this in my old previous version 4), however when I later tried to open some of the applications all I got was an error message to say that I did not have access rights to run it. One of the applications removed from the list was ZoneAlarm, on a reboot half the apps didn't run including ZoneAlarm, & didn't have access rights to uninstall, all I could was re-ghost to a prior system, could someone tell me what is going on please.
Many thanks.

Get rid of ZoneAlarm. I did after my second year as the latest version was so bloated stopped things running. Interesting that all happened after the original creators of ZoneAlarm sold out.

I use Windows firewall and just very picky on which sites I visit, I run a regualr spyware and virus scan and come back clean.

Again you, Reece...? Stop experimenting and killing your time. Reinstall your system, use Comodo, don'T do anything exotic, and you'll be fine again. Or do you want to "repair" your installation for the next coming weeks, too?

That's what I would do. Being done in one day.

Fair enough guys, the reason I really wanted ZoneAlarm was in the past prior to SP3 all went well for years with version 4, and ofcourse, very familiar with it, just that COMODO keeps asking permission for various apps to access the net when they already have allow ticked! Wierd!
Thanks, I'll play around a bit more and if no go, it's back to COMODO & just have to learn a more about it!
Thanks for your patience!

One strange problem I had with Zone Alarm was if I used Word or played a game I just could not connect to the Internet. Until I lowered the trusted sites from high to medium, very odd any how the year I had with Zone Alarm was most part alright. Now I'm with Comodo I don't have that odd problem anymore and to date all is working well.

I'll say it again....Sygate is probably the simplest, but also one of the best.

The only problem with Sygate Jim is the fact that the free version is a few years old, new versions are owned by Symantec, unfortuately the old version will not work with router & networked computers, I spent the best part of a day trying! The best ever IMHO was Zonealarm 4. Later versions do some funny things, like I just installed version 6 & works very well EXCEPT (gee I hate that word), if I set Program Control to anything higher than "Low" then Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work anymore, I can double click taskmgr.exe & that works but not the key sequence, and I can't live without that, especially when programs stop responding! wonder if there is a way to override this with Program Control set to "Med"!

Sorry to see that your router is causing you headaches... again and again

If you use a router, you don't need a firewall. In fact, modern (wireless) router has already embedded a hardware firewall, and that's why I've seen people running PCs without using firewall and their PC is still working fine

I, being suspicious of the ability of the router, installed Zonealarm in my notebook for a little experiment, and that Zonealarm have been blocking no intrusion attempts so far, compared to about 100k in a month in my old PC without the router. I guess it's because of my router working.

Yeh I went back to COMODO, my system is virus, malware, trojan & rootkit free, I think the problem may be in running RegCure, finds & fixes over 1,500 errors, problem is, it fixes the register for good!
