The base time feature is OK in this game, if you don't leave port and transit to another time zone. I remember as a kid I had a steel globe with a dial on the north pole that easily translated the time of each zone. That would be the easiest means, but not sure of its practicality for desktop use.
Baring that, does anyone have a link to a world map with the different timezones in order to translate the base time to the time within the boats position? I'm looking for the differences in GMT for the different parts of the globe. Just a list of the differences so I can manually calculate the time of my position. For example, I'm out of Pearl so the base time is Pearl's GMT. If I have a list of the differences according to GMT for the differnet time zones I can then calculate the true time of my position no matter where I am. I find the sun rising at noon to be somewhat disorientating. Thanks |

Oh, I don't think the developers calcuated the time zones for the game.
And when they did, I can't imagine, that the world has exactly the same wide and lenght... Or have you thought about this kind of stuff? IMO you can't play astrologer with a subsimulation.

Actually, Ubi did put a lot of effort into this kind of stuff, and from what I've heard, the sunrise and sunset times for various longitudes (according to tables used by WWII sub commanders) are almost spot on.
Anyways, here's a big chart for ya: http://www.theodora.com/maps/new9/time_zones_4.jpg |

I'm pretty sure somebody just released some material on this forum concerning this. I believe it was the map broken into timezones, how to convert base time to local time and then a load of information in local times ie. sunrise, senset, tides (I'm pretty sure currents and tides aren't modelled), etc.
Calculating your position or time from one another isn't too hard, I just don't really find a use for it in game. The only time I could see knowing local time affecting me is when I'm conducting attacks at night and want to see how much time I have until daylight. I'm usually able to give a rough estimate anyways and I'm much more inclined to make decisions based on visiblity and light conditions than anything else.
