AJ!, Have you played Starlancer? This is not exactly an RTS but it's the only game I know of that puts "current" world superpowers against each other in space

Yes, The intro movie in Freelancer talks about the war between the Coalition (USSRish) and the Alliance (Everyone Elseish), There's no real connection between Freelancer and Starlancer except the background story (The gameplay is not open in SL, but it's still a good game)

Sins of a Solar Empire is to Galactic Civilizations 2 AS Star Wars: Empire at War is to Star Wars: Rebellion

They both gain ground and move forward with alot of visual enahancements and features but, fall back on some of the core foundations that make the gameplay, immersion, replay-ability of their originals so great.

Just read up on it. It seems that it is online only until the expansion pack comes out. I'll wait for that. Hate playing online, especially when you have to complete a 4 hour game!

Hmm... I think I really have to check this one out. Reminds alot of Masters of Orion II which I played for a looooong time.

As for not having an SP campaign, I dont think it'll bug me that much. Not if the galaxy is big enough. :hmm:

Looks like you join up to 4 to 6 other players and go at it for hours.

There is some sort of SP element, but probably just training.

The people that play it say its the best Master Of Orion type game to every hit the face of the Earth. All reviews give it a 9 on 10 with kick ass and PC Gamer Editor choice awards. This is what peeked my interest in it.

There is a campaign engine coming in some sort of upgrade thing.

Who says there's no single player?

It comes with a ton of maps for single play. Each one can indeed take anywhere from 2-10 hours to complete. There are some huuuge maps that you could play for a month probably...

I seldomly play online multi-player games. I just don't care for the way a lot of people play online.

Um... the copy protection thing is sorta only half-true.

On the one hand, no... there's no copy protection. On the other hand, the game is unplayable (purposefully crippled maybe?) with respect to difficulty level if you don't get the latest patch. To get the patch, you have to register the game. To register the game you need the CD code... you sorta get the idea.

Personally, I have absolutely no problem with this. It's much better than having to deal with SF malware or something else of the like that would, as you mentioned, screw up your system.

I just got Sins, (found it cheap) Don't like it as well as I did GC2. What i really
enjoyed was creating my own ships from scratch (not in Sins) What I am really
looking for is a space game that you can visit all planet surfaces and do stuff
on them like in the old Starflight 1 & 2 games....

I love Starflight! Man, and I had a Tandy 1000 way back then with an audio card of 3 tones and a noise generator, and when all my friends were running 4 color CGA with a single tone generator, I had the bomb! I had 16 colors! :p

And those damn Interpol! If you didn't type in your code correctly from the wheel!

Still better than any other systems I've ever seen, outside of Oblivion of course.
