Default I'm having a "white speckle" issue with a HDTV, anyone know about this?

I hope this isn't the wrong area for this but frankly you guys are brilliant with this stuff and I have seen people answer some mind blowing PC questions. I have been scouring the net and I thought "the subsimers!" I have my PC going to a HDTV via HDMI cable. It's nice and I have my maps spread out on my table and I love it. The problem is that I have these white speckles all over the screen mostly visible in darker areas. I even bought a more expensive cable too, not bottom of the barrel and the same thing. The picture is great but the white speckles are making me crazy! I am using a Radeon X1650 video card with 512MB on it. The setup is the exact same as with SH3 before the new monitor. I would love any help and I can give you all any information you need. Thank you in advance.

hi sir.
i have an x1950pro. i dont have an hd tv but i have the same issue on my monitor. i only have it on 2 games, sh3 and CoH. all my other games work fine. it hasnt always happened on sh3; ive got a feeling it could be something to do with AA or AF or both.
hopefully someone will be along to give us a solution!
otherwise u could check out the ATI forums

did you try windex?

My poor wife tried like hell to wash the coffee stain off the nav map in GWX :rotfl:

"How did you manage to get that stain on your screen like that? My God!"

further to my earlier post ive solved the problem, at least in my case.
by accident, i should say. i stupidly reset my card back to the factory settings, ie the old drivers and older version of catalyst control center. of course, i wanted the up to date stuff back, which meant downloading and a complete reinstallation of the card and all the stuff. so far, so good...........and now i dont have the speckles any more.
the reason? before, id heavily overclocked the card in CCC using the sliders; i hadnt upgraded the cards cooler, and hadnt upped the voltage to the pci express slot. i didnt bother this time, tested the install on SH3 - and, like i said, no more speckles.
i dont know for sure that thats whats happened in your case, but, if you do have your card overclocked, try pushing the sliders back down to the defaults. the absence of overclocking hasnt caused a drop in performance in my case

Hmmm, my video card hasn't been messed with. I don't overclock anything. The card worked well with a S cable and when I went to the HDMI I got the speckles. Should I get a video card cooler? I hope I don't have too, my PC sounds like a jet engine as it is. How do I increase voltage to the slot? Would I need to do that? This is just wierd, it only wants to do the white speckle issue on a HDMI cable.

Hey there. in answer to your questions, i would say no to both. if youve not overclocked your card, you dont need an upgraded cooler or to up the voltage in yer pci slot. i was taking a wild guess to be honest mate; now im really stumped.
the only other thing i can think of would be to do with catalyst control centre. my version has options where u can enable HDTV support on the card. ive never used it, so i dont really know what im talking about, but as far as i can make out HDTV support isnt enabled by default, you have to force it within said options. if you dont have CCC already id go to the ati website and download the latest version (along with the latest drivers while youre at it):

http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_ca...=xp/radeonx-xp (this is the xp version, others should be easy to find if youre not on xp)

- the online help will get you thru the deinstallation/reinstallation process, it worked for me. then once youve installed it go into CCC and play around with the options.
good luck

Ok I thought it was overheating. No dice it seems. To make a long story short I took the sides off and have a window AC unit blowing into my PC. My hard drive was 120 F and now the video card and basically everything runs around 21 C or 70 F under FULL load. Under room temperature. I still have those &#*@#& white speckles!
