Default Cover up those naked Egyptian mummies

Quote:
Fury as museum bosses cover up naked Egyptian mummies to protect 'sensitivities' of visitors

They have been on display for more than 120 years and have bewitched and enchanted those that have seen them.
But now Egyptian mummies dating from 700BC have been ordered to cover up - because they are not wearing clothes.

Cover up your shame, people are fainting.

Well, I can see the point to an extent.

I might be pissed off if my naked body was in a museum being gorped at by tourists.

The respect and dignity of the dead should be observed, but I think that the
Manchester museum treats them with enough reverence without having to cover their
gentiles up. I think the public can be trusted not to giggle or make disrespectful
comments at nude corpses....right?

But what if Political Correctness brings about World War 3?

Anyway, I don't think they should cover it up (Atleast not completely), after all, it's an important piece of history

Hey, I'd be proud if that's what people looking at my private parts called them 3000 years later :rotfl:

Do we have to cover also Michelangelo's chef d'oeuvres ?
Or cover up the "gentiles" of the characters appearing in the sixtine chappel ?
Where does it end ? Do we have to cover every ancient greek statue ?
I mean as time goes by people are just losing touch with reality, maybe because they see too much reality tv :rotfl: but its just a sad state of affairs.

I think it is more about protecting the mummy's dignity.

Respecting the dead etc.

Not that i agree with it. (see post above).

Com'on we are talking about an historical artifact.
Its what 2000 years old ? What dignity are you talking about, I just don't understand.

If we had wanted to respect the dead, europeans should never have scavenged and brough back trophees (mummies, etc...) from their ex colonies.

Well, yes, but we are also taking about the remains of a person.

The last crew of U-69 are now historical artifacts, but if they where found in a
mummified conditions they would either be left in their sub or given a burial.

It is unlikely that they would be stripped of the clothes they died in and be put in a
museum nude like the mummies have been.

The mummies are treated differently because they are of greater historical interest,
but that does not mean there is no balance to be struck.

that said, I still think they maintain their dignity in nude display.

It's two things..........
  1. Political Correctness
  2. Possible legal action
It's just shows how plain silly this country has become.

Just to play devil's advocate:

Would you be concerned if your dead body or the dead body of one of your close
relatives (say for example your mother) was put on public public display in the nude
because it was consider historicaly intresting SUBMAN?
