Need Newbie Advice on GWX2.1

I just bought SH III, after I have been playing Silent Hunter and Aces of the Deep for many years on my old W98 computer . I now have both SH 3 and SH 4 and a new computer, and I intend to start playing both. I have read that there is a mod (GWX 2.1) available for SH III, and I have a question, the answer to which I have not been able to find by searching this forum.

I am a "casual" player. I just like to wade right into the action, and play, then stop. I have no interest in a "career" or multiplayer........ (at least so far!)

My question is: Does the GWX 2.1 IMPROVE the graphics, response, playability, AI, stability, and other aspects of the game, or does it merely EXPAND the patrols, number and types of ships........

Thanks in advance for any information you can give me..............

GWX Does all this and it includes more ships, more flotillas and patrol areas. GWX is the way the game should have been in the first place. If you need more information check out the GWX Manual. There you will find all the answers http://mysite.orange.co.uk/manual/GWX/GWX_MANUAL_EN.pdf

It also helps at lambing time, makes tea for you and tucks you into bed at night...

Or that might be my wife???:rotfl:

Seriously it is the way the game was meant to be. Lots of other stuff out there which works with it that you can install also to enhance gameplay, graphics etc.

LOL

If you want to get straight into the thick of things you've come to the right place.

There are 58 Single Missions scripted into the mod

<shameless plug> look for the 5 by the COB

Default One MORE Question

OK - I did a clean install of my SH III DVD (which was purchased for me 18 months ago) and I was able to install GWX 2.0 and 2.1. I must have done something wrong, because I am getting lock ups, so I will go back and do it again.

HOWEVER, before I do, I am aware that my ORIGINAL DVD copy has the infamous "Starforce protection" garbage on it. I do not want that stuff on my computer, and I have read that later DVD's and the D2D download does NOT have this "protection."

I am certainly willing to pony up the $20.00 to D2D to get a clean installation and also I like the idea of being able to play the game without the DVD.

So I have 3 questions:

1. Does the SH III D2D download have any of the Starforce "protection" included? If not, how do I get it off my computer?

2. Will the D2D download work "better" for upgrading to GWX 2.1 than the original DVD I have because there is no STARFORCE protection, or does it not make any difference?

3. If I replace my computer, or my HD crashes, do I have to pony up another $20.00 to download the D2D version again?

I will try to quit bothering you all with newbie questions, but I have not been able to discern these anwers by perusing the current posts.......

Thanks for any answers in advance............I greatly appreciate it.......

I can only partially answer your first question because I have no personal experience of the other two.

Welcome,

I got tired of the SF protection and having to wait for DVD download.
I went to https://www.direct2drive.com/ and download
SHIII and the 1.4 patch. Worked fine. (Cost 19.00 US)

Then loaded GWX 1 and GWX 2 (with mods) and I am a happy skipper.
