Default filefront problems

Hi all. First of all, kudos to all you nutters who love modding this game so much.
As a consequence of all these mods, I use FileFront frequently. My browser is Firefox, with FlashGot, FlashGet, and Free Download Manager plugged in.
Trouble is, with several files I've tried, neither DM has worked. What happens is that the file I am trying to download is renamed "X6". In FlashGet I use the "use Comment" option to rename the file, and it will then download ok. However, with some files, this does not work and the download doesnt even start, meaning I have to use Firefoxes default downloader.
I've checked the support centre knowledge base at filefront which suggests that one option to solve a download problem is to switch off the plug-in download manager, which suggests its a common problem. In each case of this happening, the file concerned is either a .zip or .rar.
The thing is, filefront is where i do a lot of my downloading, so whats the point of a download manager if the site doesnt support it? like i said, some files download ok, others rename themselves "X6" and theyre the ones i have problems with.
what am i doing wrong? any help much appreciated

I use Firefox user, and proud of it. Infact, you couln't pay me to use IE( I can't anyways since a Trojan Horse I had a few years ago prevents me from even installing IE 7).

I have no problems with Filefront, so I don't see how Firefox would be an issue.

Maybe try Free Download Manager, it seems to work for me for things that FF won't.

By the way, do you have FF 2.0.0.14, maybe you need to update to newest version. There is also a new 3.0 Beta available(Which I may try very soon).

I agree; I have never had a problem with Firefox either. I use "DownloadHelper 3.0.3", a free Friefox extension.

Hi wizardmatt,

are you able to download that renamed 'X6' file?
If so, download it and rerename it to the proper name after dl.

Maybe I misunderstand your post... :hmm:

Greeting,

Hi all, thanks for the replies.
I too am a confirmed firefox user, thats why i dont understand these problems.
to be honest, i reckon the ones im having are at filefronts end rather than with firefox and the addons: they handle downloads from other sites really sweet.
i'll give DownloadHelper a go tho, thanks for the tip. Thats the cool thing about firefox and FlashGot: it allows you to choose between DMs at will every time u download, which is pretty cool if u like the belt n braces approach.
As for renaming files, thanks for the tip, but thats not really the problem. it just seems that some of the X6 files just dont wanna download via my addons.
cheers guys

Hi again,

I'm also Firefox user and I use InternetDownloadManager for DLs. I know your FileFront prob well although it's not Firefox or IDM related.

There's a workaround that works for me:

Click the 'Download' button on FileFront page and wait until your DM pops up:

Highlight the download link adress without /X6, copy and paste it manually into the DM's URL dialogue:

Then hit 'OK'.
Alternatetively paste the download link adress into the adress bar of Firefox and hit 'Enter' key. That should work...

So long,
SquareSteelBar
