Hello folks,
I'm using GWX 2.1 and trying to figure this out but can't seem to pin it down. I got close at one point but ended up with a Type II's conning tower on my IXD2. Any tips? I'd like to start with a Type IXD2 in 1939. I don't mind the unwieldy beast and in fact I've rather taken a liking to it. Thank you for anything you can share. -John |

The Type-XXI-1939 Mod from the mod list comes with manual instructions on how to make the change for the XXI. It would only be a small difference to apply those changes to the IXD2.

Most uncharitable, Sir! I have given myself a handicap: the IXD2 is slow to dive and unwieldy in maneuvering especially when submerged. Not to mention that its size (should in theory at least) make it more visible to the enemy. With a green crew, moving at 1/3 ahead, I counted a bit over 60 seconds to get to periscope depth from surface running. Can I expect this to get better over time as my crew become more experienced, or does the game not model that?
Related but as an aside, U.S. submarines were more literally diesel electric, with the diesels permanently attached to electric generators. Even on the surface, electric motors were turning the props. I wonder if this might make diving more rapid . . . that is, in a German submarine I see a period of time where forward momentum is rapidly slowing down because the props aren't spinning during the transition from direct-drive diesel, to electric propulsion. This loss of momentum reduces the effectiveness of the diving planes and should increase the amount of time it takes to dive. Does anyone have further thoughts on this? How much fuel efficiency loss was there in the conversion of mechanical energy to electrical? If I recall correctly, in this era, we're looking at perhaps a 10% loss but I could be wrong. |

Hello, johnmk;
What I've done is go into my "C:\Documents and Settings\S\My Documents\SH3\data\cfg\Careers\"KL's Name" " Then I open the Patrols_0 and set the subType and SubVersion to match the IXD2. That would be - SubType=2 and SubVersion=2 To modify the Tower, I go into the same area as above, but instead of Patrols_0, I go into Careers_0. Here you can setup the weapons, upgrades and tower . Z01=5 - Tower M01=1 - DG A01=8 - AAposition 1 A02=-100 - AA position 2 S01=-100 - AA Wintergarden S02=-100 - AA position forward of the Tower S03=-100 - AA position aft the Wintergarden SuperChargerUpg=1260 BatteriesUpg=1265 HydrophoneUpg=1270 SonarUpg=-1 RadarUpg=-1 RadarWarningReceiverUpg=-1 Decoy_LauncherUpg=-1 SnorkelUpg=-1 SonarCoatingsUpg=-1 RadarCoatingsUpg=-1 Each of the items has a series attached to it and you can vary the numbers to sweeten your deck. I've not had any problems with using 1945 gear in 1939 by simply assigning into the the appropriate item. Right now I'm testing the 1945 high end radar in 1939 on my IXc/40 with 1943 vintage guns, a snorkel and a gondola sonar package as well as the finest KM batteries and diesel superchargers. It's easy to setup and tweak. I built an Excel workbook setting all of this up including flotillas. If you want the spreadsheets let me know. If not, you can go into the game itself, into \SilentHunterIII\data\Cfg and then into the BASIC file thru Notepad. The info desired is mostly towards the bottom of the file. Reading thru it shows some really excellent data and I learned several things about the boats just scrolling thru. Make sure you don't modify anything without making a backup. I never modify anything in the game unless I'm sure of what it will do. Most of the things I'd want done, the fantastic modding communtiy here has already created. It's cheaty, but it does offer some unique perspectives on how easily technology could have allowed the Germans an extremely effective early campaign that might have toppled the English. Hope this helps. Kuch |

That would be - SubType=2 and SubVersion=2 NO THIS IS A IXC/40. A IXD2 That would be - SubType=2 and SubVersion=3 Edit .... most of the items for the IXD2 are not available in 1939 so if you want download my basic file on my mods page this will allow you to arm your IXD2 properly click the link on my signature. NO mods are cheating as you are the only person involved in the game .... all you are doing is changeing things to suit they way you enjoy playing the game .. just remeber this game fights back.
