How do you isolate hydrophone contacts?

When I find a convoy, and try to get their speed by using the 15 minutes process (marking position every 5 minutes--dividing total distance by 2, dividing that by 15, and multiplying by 60), I can never follow the SAME contact throughout the process. Often times, the signals overlap--and its hard to find "merchant 1" in the rest of the pack. Anyone else have trouble with this?

thanks for any replies!

I always have trouble discerning overlapping contacts. Usually I pan the hydrophone back and forth to get a full arc of noise. Then, I find the middle of the arc and track their progress that way.

I use the same method as sarsfield.

BTW i find it annoying we cant track anything but the closest target.

I was doing this for awhile, but what if an escort is way out on one position mark, and then then way in on the next marker. When trying to get speed, it's not very accurate. I think I rely too much on getting speed from this method, and need to learn all the other methods for getting speed data.
