Default Time for the IX!

So after years of almost exclusivly playing Type VII and Type II boats I figure its time to give the Type IX a solid go. After playing SH4 I am interested in trying the German's "Big Boats".

I plan to start in Sept 39 and see how far I can go. What are some good early hunting spots in the IX? Any other advice?

Oh and does anyone have a nice IXB skin that works with GWX 2.0??

Thanks guys!!

It's fun to hit Canada that early in the war. Not many escorts but you may find lots of tankers.

Don't get too eager, she's a big lady

And I know it's early in the war.
We all did it. We all got sunk.

Avoid das Canal!

Now set a course to the choke point west of Gibraltar

Im in a IXb which I just acquired. Just annihilated a convoy. 1 corvette and 1 aux cruiser. they were soon at the bottom and the rest is just gefundenes fressen

Rockall Bank, especially AM19/AM41 if I am not mistaken, that's where all the convoys pass through

thanks for the replies.

yeah she his not quite as agile as the others i hear, but after playing with the big fleet boats in SH4 I think I will not notice it too much. And yeah 22 torps is a great thing.

I think I am just getting tired of the north Atlantic a bit so I look forward to some long distance patrols

Yup if you are used to the fleet boats, a IX will seem even more agile

im running an IXB career now, this boat is a pig. (i say that with respect however)

this boat requires commanders to constantly remain atop their tactical situational awareness.

crash dives take longer so never hesitate to order one when you need to. IX skippers have to spend a lot of time listening to that little voice in their head when it says "Dont go over there" or "crash dive now!" etc etc.

Im only just getting into 1941 with my IXB so im seeing a lot of african waters and gibralter... and thus a lot of neutrals.

the boat is large, and as a result i think the escorts would have an easier time spotting you on active sonar. (not sure if this is modeled in the game)

With the high torpedo load out you stand a good chance of completly obliterating a convoy in the right conditions.

like all boats it has its pros and cons, i still prefer the more forgiving VII series, but the IX series has proven itself to be an important tactical player.

I think it's Sept42. Don't forget to try the IXC and nip across to America for Drumbeat and give them hell.

hmmm. what is the range like on the IXB compared to the IXC? Will I be able to make it to the Carribean or America with the IXB?
:hmm:

the thing is with me I like to stick with 1-2 boats max per career. I like to upgrade them as much as I can, leaving not much renown for a new boat.

Couldn't do it. Went with the Type VII/C instead. I have played countless careers with the VII/B but NEVER the C. Not sure why. Anyway looking forward to trying it out and getting some nice upgrades!
