Default I hate destroyers.

I hate Japanese Destroyers with a passion. I hate Japanese Destroyers more then anything else in this universe! If you run into one, do me a favor - Smash it with every weapon you have on your sub into there is nothing left but little fragments that are so small they are invisible. And save enough ammo to shoot every life raft that comes from them!!!!!!!!!!11!!eleven!!111

Yeah, but dont want them, its that nasty ass Japanese beer. At least if you have the Germans throwing the party, it would be good beer.

So here I am trying to sneak into the Harbor at Saipan. Parascope Deph, on silent running and scope down. I'd move in close to where the ships are docked, come to a full stop, peek out with the parascope and get a few easy kills.

But noo.... somehow, even before I raised the parascope, some )(&(*)&^ destroyer knew I was there and comes sailing over be dropping its deph charges. WTF!!!!?!!?!?!!?!!!!???

Thats it. Time to make my Captains name 'Doctor Death' and go on a Destroyer Killing Spree.

Someone must have dropped a stinker a bit too loud and the Japs noticed it!

Well in the more serious note, I tend to believe in the notion that if you give the destroyers something to worry about instead of throwoing the beer at you, it makes everything much easier .

I was on my second patrol and decided to go up Tokyo way and see what was up. I put the scope up and it was sea state 4, raining, and just a mess. Very hard to keep the scope out of the water. I noticed that the dessies were sitting dead still. I motor along to about 500 yards off. Open outer doors 7 and 8. Fire tubes 8, 7. Tubes 8, 7 fired sir. Close outer doors and reload.

The fish are in the water, ive got my scope turned to the ships at dock. Ive got enough run on the slow setting I can fire bow tubes. I check teh the destroyer again, to make sure she hasnt picked up the fish inbound. Right before the fish hit the dessy, the boats start sinking at dock. I swing over and nothing but the sea is getting my kills. Grrr. Then my torps hit. Destryer never knew what hit it. Only thing left at berth is a sub, and I'm not wasting a torp on that in a harbor full of stuff. I motor further up, and I find the same thing. Destroyer sitting at anchor. Decided to ignore it and went shopping at the dock. picked up a large freighter, 2 meds, and a med tanker. Destroyer sits there, doesnt do a thing, so I sink it next. After that I called it quits and moseyd back out to open water outa torps.

I use 90 some % realism because I like to watch them sink close up, but if you can find a a loosely gaurded convoy you can usually apply the kill em first and get em out of the way, or at least hurt them a bit to where they are worried about sinking, not about click-whamf.

Default TMO DD's gotta love it

Big fan of TMO, especially after this incident

Running of Luzon Straight, find a merchie in bad weather - submerge and run at high speed to get position myself 1000 yards of her course line. As I'm getting in to position, sonar tells me there's a warship closing, long range. I ignore this piece of info till I'm don with the merchie and I sink her with some well placed shots. Surface and return to base patrol course when sonar reports Warship, Medium range, closing from same bearing. Now, I'm curious - did this guy really detect me from over 10000 yards just by sonar or did the merchie happen to get off a SOS? Regardless, this guy's closing fast and I decide to pull a mush and see if I can't throw some down his throat.

Environmental effects on and Volumetric Fog on - FPS be damned. Looking down scope on his bearing and I see him emerge from the fog - one of the best moments of SH4. Wow!. He's bearing straight for me, no doubt. 4 fish on a spread, last one catches him amidships and I see him sink through my scope as I crash dive to 240.

Wow, Wow, Wow - this is an amazing game.
