Default ebay question

If you are selling something on e-bay can you bid on it yourself.
I thought e-bay would automatically push a bid up slightly if you are selling but obviously not.

Saying that I could get some mates to shill bid but that would be wrong.

Wouldn't be hard to do, especially if you opened a second email account, eg with Hotmail. Having said that, I suspect they would frown on it and I suspect they check.

There's also a chance that your alter ego will win, leaving you holding the bag for e-Bay's share of the sale price, plus the insertion fee.

Good way to lose money. Try the Triacta if you like gambling.

Doing like this is fraud, and I have read their policies do not tolerate it. If you get caught, not only do they kick you out - they could even start a lawcase against you. I would not take it for granted that they act merciful with cases inclduing limoited money. Since it is their business they run, a bad reputation of not caring for such incidents does hurt them financially. Even changingn the feedback scheme for customers some time ago lost them sellers and thus: income, in numbers black on white.

If you bid and suspect somebody does like this, I would leave him immediately. No need to reward shabby behavior like this. nothing I would will to buy at Ebay can be so urgent and precious that I would tolerate such behavior.

However, sombody always can have a friend bidding in the seller's name to artificially increase the price. again, I consider that to be unacceptable and would not reward it by buying.

If you place an advert to sell, you can define the starting bid yourself. After the first bid placed by somebody, the price is rasied automatically by a small increase. For items of daily life, books, DVDs etc, that is usually done in 50 cent intervals.

The last sentence confirms what I though happened. I wouldn't do shill bidding. I'll let it run its course.
