Default Back after a long absense with some questios!

Hello all,

I used to post on her quite a bit and played alot of Silent Hunter 3 with GSX. I recently decided to give Silent Hunter 4 another go and was wondering if there is any important things i should know or any mods that I need to have. I havent played SH4 since version 1.0. I patched it up to 1.4 and enjoyed my first patrol last night.

I guess the main things i would like to know is if some of the annoying things from version 1.0 are fixed;

-are you still forced to retire after 4-5 patrols?
-is there still that bridge bug where all your sailors die if the bridge is damaged?

Last question is about the difficulty. I set it to normal as I am not a huge realism nut. No does that effect the gameplay at all or just the default realism settings? I know on SH3 when u picked the difficulty all it effected was the realism options.

Anyway thanks for your time. Glad to be back to sea!!

You were never forced to retire after 4-5 patrols unless you disobeyed orders and did not complete your missions. The captain of a submarine is a long way from the top of the food chain. You do what you're told or someone else will.

I've been around since 1.2 and never heard of all the sailors dying if the bridge is damaged. In fact, I've had radar antenna, both periscope heads and radio antenna damaged but never bridge damage. Looks like it's not a problem.

The difficulty settings have nothing to do with enemy behavior, only with realism settings which can be set individually.

Welcome back! Leave me some targets.

awesome! thanks for the reply

yeah i bought SH4 the day it came out. played a few days and every time the bridge took dmg, any sailor u put up there would die.

the other thing, though i never experienced it cause i went back to SH3, was that after 5 or so patrols you were given a desk job. i remember the forums were upset about it cause guys that were used to SH3 were annoyed that you had to give up your boat, while in SH3 you could play till you got sunk. wasnt sure if this was still an issue.

anyways thanks again.

ps. any patrol spots you can reccomend in Dec/Jan 41? I just delivered an agent to Japan and now have a bunch of torps left and have found only 1 japanese merchant. i headed down the coast of japan, past tokyo but the air cover is annoying and these US boats sure submerge slow Anything out by Wake? I just got info that the Japanese took the island. I am heading there now to see whats up.

Default Places

I was out of Pearl the whole war so I just hunted around Japan. I understand from the Southwest Pacific Fleet the hunting is even better. AVGWarhawk should be able to fill you in on those targets.

It has never happened to me but I did read a thread where someone was offered a new boat and turned it down and they were given a desk job. Maybe that's what they meant by giving up their boat. ?

thanks again for the responses guys!

i started another career in the Asiatic Fleet. Very cool to kinda start right in the thick of it out there. Been chasing convoys and warships through the South Chine Seas for days with good success.
