Default Crap - CD key

Game Key Lost.

Hi all. I'm just getting back into SH4 now that the 1.4 patch has been released. I think I used to post as Schlageter-JG26?

Anyway, I jumped the gun and uninstalled the program so I could reinstall a fresh copy. I had a ton of modified old files that I haven't used, so it seemed wiser to start fresh and try out some of the mods and tweaks that have come out in the last year since I stopped playing shortly after the release due to bugs.

So here's my problem. I've got the install cd, the bonus disc, the control card, pacific map, and ship ID fold-outs. What I DON'T have is the original box, which is where I suspect the game key is. If it is in the manual, can someone let me know? I'm sure I still have the manual kicking around but it just needs finding. The box, on the other hand, got tossed. I keep all my game cds in a carousel and (with this exception) write all my keys in an Excel file which I keep several copies of. SH3 is in there.... SH4 is not.

If the key is not in the manual, is there a way for me to go about retrieving the key from my registry????

I'd rather use the key I paid for than go online for some shared copy. I might not to multi-player, but I'd still rather be legit.

Thanks for any help.
And to any nay-sayers, I can provide photo proof of everything I've got.

I seem to remember it being in the back of the manual, but it's been a while since I needed that.

I put up the original post here as I was installing from the cd. Yet, when it was finished I have not been prompted for any cd key. I went ahead and ran the 1.4 patch and entered the game.... it fired right up. Am I missing something? Or when/where do I have to enter the key?

Ah well, going to play for now and feed the anticipation I've had for the past few days while reading posts on new mods. Let's hope I don't end up with the eye-less swabbies!

They removed the necessity of having to use the CDs to run the game in either patch 1.3 or 1.4. This may have eliminated the CD Key requirement, as well, by accident.

Neat! I lucked out then. Unless it is going by data still in the system. I'll be sure to squawk if I run into problems.

Also, doubly happy at the nocd alteration. I *HATE* having to swap out cds. The only disc I keep in my drives is BF2142.

It's in the back inside cover of manual.

But I gotta tel you I have three copies of SH-3 and they all have the same key and I bought them all from GameStop.

Btw I use a Sharpie fine point and write the key on the disc.

Not a bad idea that: using the Sharpie.

I just feel dumb because I have every other program listed on the file I keep, but I somehow missed SH4. Must've been caught up with figuring manual fire solutions at the time.

Yup good advice, I do that with any product that requires a key because inevitably when you need the key you wont be able to find it.

Did you need the key for internet play only? I never used the CD key for anything.

You will need the Cd key number if you want to play on-line

I only needed to use the CD-Key when I would go to get online. No place in the install did it ever ask for the CD-Key. Have had SH4 since release date. If you use the "Play on Ubi" option was when it needed to be entered.

Then I have no problems. Excellent.

What if I want to LAN against a buddy this weekend? No key needed unless I'm on Ubi, right?

I like this very much. I hate having to keep track of keys. They only hastle the honest owners.
