Default Dramatic torpedo damage

Here's a interesting picture of the US heavy cruiser New Orleans with 120 feet of her bow missing, all the way back to turret number two.

The damage was caused by Japanese torpedoes during the Battle of Tassafaronga. The damage was patched with coconut tree logs and she limped her way back to port for repairs. I was curious as to whether anyone had seen ships in SH4 get their bows or sterns blown off and stay afloat and get back underway. :hmm:

I cliped a Jap destroyer in half once. That was pretty cool. Nah he didnt stay afloat he went down pretty quick. Got him Mush Morton style while he was heading for me. He was a Fubuki class. Brokem just fwd of the bridge. Then watched him run over his own bow, it was supa crazy!

Quite the scene. I was thinking that since US torpedoes didn't pack quite the explosive wallop that the Japanese ones did, your chance of seeing surviving bisected ships might be greater.

I haven't seen any ships survive breaking up in the stock game. I've seen a few flaming carcasses head for the horizon.

New Orleans wasn't the only one of her class to have her bow blown off.

Yeah....Tassafaronga was a bad night for the US Navy. New Orleans and Minneapolis with their bows blown off. The heavy cruiser Northampton sunk. The Japanese lost one destroyer although their supply mission was frustrated.

I seem to recall reading that the Japanese battleship Fuso was blown in half by US torpedoes at the Suriago Straits battle and both halves floated for quite a while before sinking.
