I have had my grandfather's WW2 medals for about 5 years now. He died before I was born so I could never talk to him about it. Can anyone suggest somewhere to find out about them? He was awarded the War Medal (1939-1945), the Defence Medal and 1939-1945 Star. These are the only things I have to link him to me apart from his wedding ring which was given to me.
Any assistance is very welcome. Brendan.

I would suggest finding out which service he was in and then requesting his service record.I did this for my wife's great uncle who was as air gunner. It will give you a good idea as to his unit, dates and decorations. The rest is then up to you.
