Default Query for an Odd Problem

I did two searches but they didn't turn up a solution to the problem. So I find myself having to ask the community in general.

The problem I'm having is that I recently installed GWX 2.0 ontop of a clean install of SH3 v1.4b. The reason I did this was to play in the Indian Ocean / Pacific Ocean (IO/PO) or the Black Sea, and as I understand it, the way I do this is to enable the appropriate "module" through JSGME.

With either the IO/PO or Black Sea Only modules enabled, I then start the game. Once in game I start a new career, and select the appropriate flotilla once its available in the appropriate year. The problem is that I always seem to start off the "bend" of Africa (where the western coast juts out perpendicular to the north-south line of the coast from the cape) with no bases to start or end at, just a patrol reference.

I'm not sure if I missed something in the documentation or an online discussion, but it's beginning to get frustrating, especially given the already limited time I have available to play SH3 in.

I sure don't, as I've never played those scenarios. I do remember, however, some folks a long time ago complaining about starting off Africa - and that was in the stock game.

Yes, I experienced that myself. Once it happened to me completely randomly at the beginning of a patrol, and another time it happened to me immediately after a transfer to a new flotilla.

It seems to be happening very frequently whenever I try to start in the Black Sea or in the IO/PO though, and that's why I asked. I'm going to give it another few goes (currently at a count of four tries) and see if it'll remember to start me at Penang after I complete a patrol or something along those lines. It's a bit frustrating since I can't deploy to the IO or the PO until very late in the war and that doesn't give me much time to enjoy the atmosphere of the new operational area.

I tested this more thoroughly. I am not able to start patrols from any location, with IO/PO or Black Sea files enabled, except from off the coast of Africa.

More alarmingly, this has spread to all oceans: Attempting a secondary career in a Type VII using GWX 2.0 has me starting off the African coast as well. Exceedingly strange.

Edit:
- I forgot to mention that I did disable the files in question before trying the secondary career.

hmmm, well someone has an answer and will eventually share it.

As far as starting off Africa, this is 0N 0W latitude and longitude. Where the prime meridian and equator cross. When SH3 doesn't know where you are supposed to start your mission it defaults to placing you at 0'-0"N 0'-0"W which is right where you are describing.

The person you want to talk to is "bigboywooly" if anyone can help its him.

My initial thought is that some minor step got overlooked or two JSGME enabled mods are conflicted.

Good luck

@PavelKirilovich: i had that similar problem couple of weeks ago, im pretty sure that the thread is listed in here. the problem i had was that i started near, freetown. so i posted the same problem that u have right now. the people here explained to me what i did wrong, it appeared that when i installed the campaign files with JSGME, that i have overwritten 1 file with another so that they became pretty much useless. if i find that thread ill post it right here.

Thanks for the information!

For whatever reason, this thread - or any others like it - didn't come up when I conducted my first two searches of the SubSim forums. Unfortunately, I knew better than to potentially cause conflicts by trying to enable too much at once, what I was doing with JSGME was trying to enable as little as possible so as to hopefully avoid any of those errors.

From reading what I've seen on this subject so far (thanks again, guys) I think I have a theory as to what happened. I played through the stock game, 1940-1945, with v1.4b patch installed. I was using several mods enabled via JSGME.

Now, I knew that GWX 2.0 was a complete piece of work, to say the least, and that it would require JSGME use to enable/disable various options. So I opened JSGME and disabled all the mods I had enabled, then closed it, then went on to install GWX over what I would assume to be a now-clean copy of SH3, unless I misunderstand how the JSGME program works.

It may be that either I missed a mod (I highly doubt this) or just some random glitch happened (happens to me waaay more than it should) and that could explain that. I've since uninstalled SH3, and will take steps to reinstall, re-patch, re-GWX, and then carefully install additional mods ontop of that until I get the functionality I'm looking for. The extra mods are just things like a retexture or two, a few additional tracks for the gramophone, highlighted target sweetspots (though I may not use that this time around, experience having taught me much) and so on so forth.

Once again: Thanks for your assistance thus far. I'll let you know how it all goes.

also be aware that vista users have additional uninstall steps that if not followed correctly will result in an insallation of SH3 which appears clean but is in fact not exactly clean.

Thankfully I don't have to deal with Vista. What a horrible operating system that is.

Maybe use the 'Merged Campaign'optional mod first? Then, after youve played the first mission, you can activate only the campaign files for the theatre you are playing in?

Sturmer: I am reinstalling now. I will report back here when I have completed this process.

Fusek: Good idea! I'll give it a go.
