Default Sue-craze hits Best Buy.

Selfish, irresponsible, attention-whore, imature self-entitled respectable lady of the night sues Best Buy for $54 million dollars over lost Laptop: http://www.tomshardware.com/2008/02/...llion_lawsuit/

She says she knows she can't get the money. But this way she gets media attention, and thus a powerfull leverage to bargain with.

Customer protection now needs protection from certain customers. This irresponsible suing should have legal consequences against the clown. Where are the tazing cops when we need them?

I think you guys missed the point.

I'd be pissed too if I'd been blown off by BestBuy for that long.

Now the Naked Cowboy sueing M+M CANDY FOR $100,000,000.00 is a bit much.

I think she's got a good point. Who knows what kind of software she has on her system. In this day and age of id theft, she could risk a ton of problems in the future. A simple search in her temp files could reveal credit card numbers, passwords, bank information and the like. Best Buy doesn't just hire anyone in their geek squad.

I see her point. She layed out $1400.00 for the computer. Downloaded some music that costs. That is now gone. The offer of $900.00 was a silly. They should offer her the $1100.00 a free 3 year warranty instead of paying the $300.00 and a $500.00 gift card. Lets face it, she has been without the darn thing since May!!!

This whole thing is as silly as Congress and the "Clemens used steroids 10 years ago" fiasco... Maybe we should get Congress involved in this too. What a waste of time...

On the upside though, perhaps it'll replace the Britney Spears non-drama for awhile...

I ummm.. actually almost got Staples sued like that.
I worked there as a computer repair tech. This woman brought in 3 really heavy servers for motherboard battery replacements and some software upgrading. These things were HEAVY. I carried the first one into the tech room and placed it on the floor. I then took the seccond one and placed it on the floor next to it. As I carried the third one in, I tripped over my ankle and I dropped the third server... right on top of the other servers. All three servers were crushed when the thing slammed into them (it was HEAVY !!). Pieces flew everywhere accross the floor. Now these servers also were custom designed and custom networked for their business with their own operating systems and everything. Staples ended up having to pay for three new servers for them AND pay to have a professional IT firm go out there and reload all the software and do all the custom networking, and re-installing all the backups of the files they needed.
All in all, it ended up costing Staples several thousand dollars. I don't know how I somehow kept my job after that.

Hats off to Staples that you did! If one of the techs on my staff did what you did, I'd look first at past performance. If he/she is a good tech with no problems, I'd back that person 100%. It appears that's what Staples did which must mean that you're a hell of an asset to the company.

Don't question it. Give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back!

I must admit, that crossed my mind too :hmm:. And if I had custom-built servers, I'd have a tech to come service them or have one on-site.

As far as the law-suit goes: The woman has a good point. Another sad point to make is it takes a huge, rediculously inflated law-suit to create enough attention just to get what should have been a no-brainer by the Big-Box Company in the first place. There's definitely a Manager (at least one) in this equation that needs to get the boot.
