Dang ...didn't mean for it to bring you young folk down...lol.

Relax and enjoy...it really isn't GWB's fault there is a Valentines Day ....if you have a woman like I do and have been with for sometime you enjoy making her happy not just Valentine's Day, but it is just and occasion to be extra nice.

If you happen to find someone you can spend your life with every day is gold already, and the rest is icing on the cake.

And now for something completely different:

I recently read an article on diamonds. It seems that diamonds are not the rarest gems, or even close. Back when the de Boers company bought their first mine they found themselves with a glut of diamonds, and had to find some way to market them. They used creative advertising to sell diamonds, and it worked. "Diamonds are a girl's best friend?" Created by the diamond merchants. The engagement ring? Made up by the diamond merchants. Apparently before about 1890 no-one ever gave his girl an engagement ring; not even the richest folks.

Of course try convincing your honey that she's been suckered by a marketing ploy.:rotfl:

After 29 years of marriage we know each others thoughts. Don't need a special day to show it.

I agree with Biggles, we're not all some sort of "socially wanted" (I've put it in bracket as everyone has his own explanation of it).

Yeh, the States are just mad about ANY holiday. What have we made from our old traditions? Not that I would agree on anything that celebrates love in such a manner, now or in the past, but our society has a nose for turning everything for the worst. Once again, it's those who look at others that suffer. I'm not talking about "people without someones" as Biggles put it, I'm talking about those who can't afford in this society to enjoy one special day (as it's being promoted). Guess who WON'T be getting a diamond necklace and 3 or so dozen roses?

There are many reasons why one might not like valentines in its current form. Be glad you don't. You're not missing anything. Just capitalism and liberalism forcing you to do something to "belong" to the crowd. For all the others, who have their better halfs, make them show you love them. Just for the sake of it. Be sure it's NOT the ONLY day you do it. Otherwise, you're no better than those who look at this through the money prism.
Dude, nobody says you have to BUY a card. Make one! Write a poem. Compose a song. It's the thought, and the effort, that counts, not how much money you paid for that fancy Hallmark.

Luckily women go crazy if you actually do something yourself, you dont need to use huge sums of money. Nice dinner and a cake, WILL work, and they will return the effort.. Cooking is fun and it helps get chicks, trust me.

Happy Valentines Day to all the lady subsimmers. If you are single, I will be your valentine. If your happily married, enjoy your day because you have earned it.
If you are happily cheating, there may be a spot in the heart for you as well :p.

My girl and I are just having a relaxing evening online together. I composed a short piece of piano music to give, I have a little red wine. That's what V-Day is about for me. Spending time with your partner, not showering them with commercial crap.

If you're single, may this day bring to you what I found three years ago - someone with which to share your lives.

If you're dating someone, may this day be one in which you both appreciate the little things in each other, and remember there are 364 other days in the year in which you can do the same.

If you're married, toast to another day happily together. I'm happy for each and every one of you.

I guess adults live this day in a more relaxed way. Not as much pressure what I can understand. But for a teenager, attention is important, and the lack of it might feel heavy. That's why I'm rather down today, seeing many students in my school having so much fun and all. I'm a lonely person by nature, not only single and so, but with few friends. Yet there are many who has it much worse than me.

But I think I mentioned some sort of story from my past...

Well what's to say? I met this girl in England (I know what you're thinking, but she's swedish).:rotfl:
Anyway, eh.....well, okay, we started to talk, just randomly, the more we talked the more I liked her, the more I noticed how good looking she was. She was smart, funny, sympathetic, a good listener, mad as a balloon, but extremely likeable. And I fell for her rather quickly. It's not weird when I fancy a girl just like that. It is, however, when a girl likes me. This was one of the rare (unique? Quite possibly) moments when I liked a girl just as much as she liked me. I had no experience from before, none at all, so I was a nervous wreck, but she was more experienced (she's about 1.5 months older than me). I thought things was taking a good turn when she said that her hands were cold and wondered if I could keep them warm by holding them in my hands
At the same night I met her I admitted that I liked her, and she said likeways, so we parted, hoping to meet eachother next day.
We didn't until the evening. Took us several hours to get away from all the other teens, but when we were finally alone, we walked out on Torquays Pier (her idea, again holding hands, after she claimed that one of her hands, the one closest to mine, was very cold). After sitting there for awhile, took it abit further and...well, to cut it short, that night was the first time I kissed a girl. This far the only time too.

That's my story...it's longer, very complicated, and it's still going on, but I'm happy for what I had. Since that night (July 8th, 2007), I haven't had a time with a girl that comes even close to that.

Oh, almost forgot:

NO! No I am not the brain specialist...no, no I am not....YES! Yes I am!"

Who's that Valentine guy anyway??
Karl Valentin, famous german comedian??
Ok, Wikipedia just educated me about Valentine the Martyr, Geoffrey Chauncer and connection to Lupercalia.
But absolutely zero german cultural tradition, like Halloween and Santa Claus it has just been imported by consumerism.
But I gave up on protesting those plagiarism holidays since that complaining gets you nowhere.

Anyway, I got a card and a box of heart shaped sweets from a girl engaged to another man without asking for it...
Ok, I wrote a short poem as well (in the subway on the way to Uni), but I assure you it was perfectly honest and just about friendship.
We just get along extremely well and kind of drag each other through final exams.
Ok, but still better than the average "not me" valentine's day of the last 5-20 years and a lot better than going out with two hot sisters on a Valentine's night in 2004 and going home alone...
