I'm using the NviDia GForce 8800GT with 768MB of memory and I have no problems at all. GWX runs like silk on a lovely lady's back

I run both SH3 and SH4 with an ATI 1550 -512 and one Meg of RAM, I don't push the graphics and and have never had a CTD.

I've just built myself a new system: Intel Q6600Go CPU, 2Gb RAM. And the GPU?: a Radeon X1950Pro, the 512Mb version. This setup eats SH3 for breakfast (tho i dont have SH4). It plays HL2, CoH really smooth at entirely respectable settings. The gpu cost me about £90, overclocking it is a piece of p**s, and i am a very happy pc gamer.
If you seriously are gonna spend £300, i think u should be able to pick up an nvidia 8800gtx for around that these days. however, you may wanna consider getting a recent 8800gt, which only cost around £160ish. the 8800gts was until the last coupla months the flavour of the month in terms of bang for buck, but it has been superceded by the aformentioned 8800gt (acoording to pcg magazine (uk), anyway). id recommend buying yourself a magazine or 2 with "hardware top tens" style features |

BFG GeForce 8800GT/OC 512MB for me - makes both sims look great. Great price-to-performance ratio card, IMO (I paid $259.99 USD for mine).

Seafarer,
Your system rocks for these sims. iesol, As I said before, you need to be careful with your power supply. I have a five year old machine; I cannot add a chip that draws 200 watts of power with my power suppy. My machine already has a problem with heat with an ATI 9800 redeon pro and I have maxed out my power supply. I would love to have an 8800... nivea, but I can't.

If you want to spend 300 pounds you can't go past the new ATi RADEON HD3870 X2 Its a dual chip card...it will give you performance above GeForce 8800 Ultra levels!!
Just make sure your power supply is of good quality and/or has at least 550 Watts. Its not worth buying a 320 or 640 MB geForce 8800 GTS anymore... as they have been replaced by a new "G92" version 512MB 8800 GTS which has more texture addressing units and more shader processors. Also stay away from the original geForce 8800 GTX, they are being disconinued yet remain too expensive. Get a ATi HD3870 X2 and you'll be laughing! Just make sure its the "X2" version! My second choice would be one of the new geForce 8800 GTS with 512MB and G92 core. (the G92 and 512MB part is really important!!)

Ok, this gives me some info to go on.
Might have to look at a new system. Although I might get away with a new fan, graphics card and some more Ram. Many thanks for all the input folks. |
