I have it (or at least 90% of it, I left out a few sections I wasn't interested in) in pdf. I noticed it was closing down and d/l'd for my own reference. It's as formatted by Acrobat download, in other words it doesn't look precisely the same as the web pages, but pretty close and the internal links are preserved. I will have a look at it in the next couple of days to see what I missed out. I don't recall the file size offhand, as it's not on this pc.
I guess I could send it to someone, I don't have any way of posting it. I assume there are no copyright issues as it's a community manual. Edit to add: Without wishing to make a bigger than necessary deal about it, I notice that the community manual does say "You may not reproduce or redistribute this manual or parts of this manual on other media." I'd want to be sure that if I passed it along I'd not be running afoul of anyone who authored the community manual or who might claim any rights in it. If I have it right, danurve hosts it and I guess that over time there have been various authors/contributors. I'm thinking someone appropriate should "release" it. Comments appreciated. This manual is a great piece of work and I, as all of you, would hate to see it go away, or be hard to find. I have copied the manual to my hard drive in RTF format with most graphics preserved. I do not know how to make the valuable links and URL's active so I coppied it entirely. I am going to start my own web site as I am a SHIII (GWX 2 with mods addict) and I realize that withdrawal is not an option. I would be proud to host the manual if no one objects or someone else has not already started to do so. I would need help to clean up what I have coppied and to put the links and URL's back. These are important to me because it gives credit to all the information links and modders who make the Sim great. If someone has already started to save the manual and make it readly available I will back out and wait for the results of the rescue. UPDATE: I now have it in PDF but it is 150 pages. I still need help in puting in links and URL's. It looks good in PDF and graphics are intact,,,
Lassen Sie uns gemeinsam Captains erhalten, und speichern Sie sie für SHIII Geschichte. Last edited by Laufen zum Ziel; 02-01-08 at 06:40 PM. |

The free PDF link in your post allowed me to PDF the whole Community Manual. It worked great.
You may also have made Brag some cash to. If his book goes to a download on the internet I can download it and convert to PDF and read it on my Palm PPC while I am cruising the North Atlantic. ![]() Again thanks. |

Are you going to place the manual on line or give a link to the pdf?

When my website is up I could post it there. Until I can add links and URL's to it it is quite large (150) pages. If some one was willing to help clean it up I could upload it for general download on file front then everyone interested could download the PDF file to their hard drives. Not quite sure what a sticky is but they seem to stay around. Maybe, once it is good, the PDF link could remain on the forum. My main concern is that the manual does not die.

I used HTTRACK (http://www.httrack.com/) to create an offline copy -- all content, formatting and links intact, 68Mb zipped.
It's not as useful as having the entire db imported into another wiki site (I suppose danurve is looking into this?), but easier to navigate than a PDF. |
