Hulldamage and subdepths

Hello!

I´m been doing career in the Porpoise sub and finally got bombed by an aeroplane near Japan. Well, I haven´t taken these attacks seriously before and stayed on the surface fighting back with my 20 mm AC, although It isn´t what a real captain would have done. Often the japanese planes have dived at me but nothing had happend besides me shooting them down. This time I got a well placed bomb right at my sub causing about 75% hull damage. I thereafter made a crashdive to avoid further damage of this lethal bird. At about 40 meter my submarine broke apart ending my life and career.

I figured out that diving isn´t a good idea with severe hull damage, but what is the relationship between hulldamage and subdepth? Can You for example dive with some hull damage and how deep?

Me using RFB, NSM and RSRDC.

I go no deeper than periscope depth and hope for the best. As you go deeper with hull damaged (and you have seen this) your hull integrity will slowly diminish. 75% on the hull and it is time to go on home

Dude, the second you see an aircraft, crash dive. Don't play hero. You might have a long run of good luck, but like my mama says "don't push it".

The ONLY reason you should be shooting at airplanes is that you're on the surface, repairing a badly damaged boat, limping home. Then it's a fight for survival, and the first order should be all ahead flank and full left rudder. Hell, I do crashbacks, crazy Ivans, whatever I can do to mess up their aim.

Well, I´m not using TM, thats why I have not bother to dive every time a plane shows up on the radar. In most cases the japanes planes seem to be harmless, more fun to shoot them down then going down and up in the water. However, I was suprised when I finally got a bomb in the head Now I have to be more careful

Ahhhh. I am, with the RSRD Phase II. Airplanes suck.

Yeah- wait until you get a near miss, and you wind up with flooding in 2 major compartments :p

Funny part is.....when you let your guard down because they suck here comes one who drops one down the hatch

Dont forget that with TM 1.7.6 the armor level on the sub has been reduced... crappy planes or not the zeros still shoot my deck crews and one lucky float plane s.o.b blew the port side of the torpedo room out...

Always crash dive (if you can) as soon as you get a radar report, if you cant go below periscope depth due to damage dont waste the effort, just get ya gun crews ready and man one yourself and send tojo to a fiery death!

Almost the same thing happend to me last night. A few hundred miles out from Midway, I got hit by a plane just as my conning tower was going under. I had a hull damage of 40 and was just entering a crash dive when I thought "better not".

Surfaced again, made my way back to Midway but the refit did nothing for my hull damage. All other systems were fixed except for that.

helpful hint. When you spot a plane on the surface call for flank speed and then start turning towards the aircraft, and also call crash dive. The reason you want to turn into the airplane is it will increase his dive angle and give him less time to aim and drop bombs on you. Once under water change direction, and run in that new direction for a while.
