Default Mineral oil submerged computer cooling

This is wild. I always had dreams of doing something like this but never thought it possible. Wonder how cool the computer stays and what reliability issues it might have? Fans should stay well lubricated. Might be a good experiment with an old computer. :hmm:

Funny my brother had the same idea .. So this means it actually works .. question is just how long?

I only wonder why he did not disable the fans - they are essentially useless and will break down in liquid right.

That is so cool. If you put a radiator system in it I bet it could work even better.
I don't think the wife would be too happy though.

Definitely needs a radiator, as you can see from their temp graphs, with and without radiator: http://www.pugetsystems.com/submerged.php#update2

That's all well and good...until the oil becomes contaminated and you wind up frying your CPU.

Never tried it with mineral oil, but i have tried vegetable oil and that works, though the oil will need changing every now and again and it isnt really all that efficent though it is 100% soundless. The fans life is allso shortened if kept runing which isnt nessesary.

I went to their website and it shows some great pictures. The last update was December and they state there is going to be a spring project coming out soon. I can't wait.

Should've seen the look on my 13 year old step-son's face. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Granted, he didn't know what mineral oil was and I didn't have the heart to tell him what it was used for back when I was a kid.

Also displayed in the movie "The Iron Giant".

Kid mixed up some broken up Ex-Lax into a dish of ice cream. "It's called a 'Landslide'."

Took about 5 minutes to work.
