Default Radar hit or miss in rough weather

SJ radar can be hit or miss with surface contacts in rough seas... at least with the small ones. I will pass over an area on the scope manually several times knowing a target is at a certain range and location and sometimes it shows up and sometimes it doesn't. On the A-scope you can see the spike fade in and out if you keep it focused on the target. I have only experienced this with sampans and fishing boats so far - lots of them around Guadalcanal. Even more frustrating was that the sampan made a big spike on the A-scope at 40,000 yards. I thought maybe I had a lone cruiser at first. As we got closer, the A-scope amplitude got smaller.

Also, a word of caution: the radar operator doesn't always report contacts. Especially n00bs. I had a destroyer almost blow me out of the water at about 5,000 yards in the New Georgia Sound at night, because he didn't say anything. So, now I make it a point to look at the screen every hour for several revolutions. (Lousy look-outs didn't say anything either).

I've noticed that the crew is mediocre on the first patrol, regardless of how good their stats are. By the second patrol, they are usually a lot better at their posts.

That explains it. I got clobbered, but good by a Japanese destroyer...I thought it might have been a Claude Rains-class DD or something that nailed me. I couldn't figure out how the radar operator missed him!

Good Grief! Looks like I am gonna continue to be Charlie Brown to your Lucy...Duci!

Nice work, Ducimus!

I changed radar and visual player sensors to be effected by crew profeciency, where as before, they were not.

Also, i changed radar to be effected by waves. I was conservative in this regard however. I wanted to make waves a bigger effect then i did, but decided not to make this change very drastic for fear of overdoing it.

The general premise is that radar is entirely too reliable and perfect in function. Watch crew as well. They are rather eagle eyed. Rather then "nerf" them, i decided making them more human (prone to error) was more reasonable.

I manually modded the waves .ini file to match the frequency and amplitude of SH3. So, I've probably made it harder from my own doing, as well.

Nice touch!

For the record Duci your wavehieght minimum sensor hieght
correlation works great with advanced radars too.
I loose the contact intermittently just like in RL when
in choppy seas.

The stock game can also lose radar contacts briefly in rough sea.
