Default Life is good

Just got back from Bosnia. Killed an Mi-8 Hip, shot down 2x MiG-21 Bis, took out both and SA-3, and SA-6, had 4 missiles shot at me - all missed, and my wingmen took out 7 transport trucks. I took some flak with minor damage, but still flew home fine with a Minor FLCS fault.

F4AF is still one of those sims that one constantly goes back to since you can't find this experience anywhere else!

Falcon 4, got it collecting dust haven't played it for years. Found it difficult to master even with the best binder manual ever. Great game thou probably the best modern combat sim to ever come out.

I find LOMAC suits my tastes abit more easiler!

It may be difficult, but that is what makes it attractive and long lasting. It isn't an arcade game.

12th patch announced for "early 2008". Last one was in mid-summer 2007.

Probably a good opportunity to reinstall it myself, too, and check it out again. I left AF after the 2nd or 3rd patch.

Its stable, and everything functions properly. Just get rid of those annoying padlock boxes and all is good!

I have 2 complaints only - 1 is that radio channels are not marked properly in that they should be channel 1 through 15. THey are marked the old way like package, prox, flight, etc.

My second complaints - there is not a realistic spool up time on Mavericks. Its ready to go in 15 seconds, which is about as long as it takes you to set up a shot. I believe Mav's should take a few minutes to spool up.

I guess if those are my only 2 complaints, the sim is about as good as one would ever hope for.

F4 is like a religion to me. The only game to almost constantly stay on my hard drive for...

...hey, it just passed its 9th birthday :p

Really an amazing game. I think it's almost sad that after all this time, it's still the only game - by a mile - that can boast modelling a full-scale dynamic war in which the player can directly participate, in glorious 3D. There's been some other noble efforts in making dynamic campaigns, but none nearly as complete as F4's (and that one only got complete after many, many patches and infinitely more mods!)

PS - shouldn't this be in the flight sim forum?

Maybe. Have to agree though - F4AF will be on my PC for the forseeable future!

When I first started reading this, I didn't know you were talking about a sim and was pretty much like !

Hmmm.. My avatar looks like he's peeking into a girl's locker room through the keyhole !

I just found an original version of Falcon 4.0 in my game closet unopened !!! Does it work well under XP and modern machines ? Any suggestions to get it running well or do you think it will go belly up ? Is it worth the install ?

Of course maybe i wouldn't of found it so difficult if i left out the SuperPAK 4 mod at the time this made so many adjustments to the game & i was hoping somewhere it would give me a simple lock on fire and forget yet all it gave me was a large menu list of changes i could add with more extreme gameplay and a much better interface fix. Yet somehow i liked it even tho I only manage to shoot something down by total fluke . Surpisingly this mod is still around and is still rated better than AF by some.

I got ya all beat. I spent 8 hours in a real, geunine, United states air force, F4 simulator, complete with instructor monitoring me from the special console desk they have. One of the coolest things i ever got to do. Its called, "you scratch my back and all scratch yours". They needed some trenchs dug to lay cable, and being an engineer, it was no problem. All i had to do was dig em a hole with a backhoe as a "favor job". So a buddy and I did just that. In payment, they said, "come back tonight". They even brought us a case of beer (coudlnt drink any in the simulartor naturally), i guess we saved them alot of digging.

Hey! Sign me up next time you do something like that! I'll dig a trench or two for some sim time! I've got about 1 hour on Boeing 747 simulators, but that all about it. F-16 sim time is even worth more to me! Bet I could beat their guys on their own sim!
