MS hasn't learned much from Vista, it seems

they haven't learned at all. Instead of trying to make the OS as slim and slender and robust as possible, they try to blow it more up in eye candy, gimmick stuff, and other nonsense that does nothing for functionality, but eats up your computer ressources for nothing. They do not see that the OS is the better designed, the less you see it, because it is not the star of the show, but the screen on which the office or game software is projected. It should use as little ressources as possible, and remain in the background as much as possible.

If they say

"All I will say that if you are impressed by the ‘touch features’ in the iPhone, you’ll be blown away by what’s coming in Windows 7. Now if only we could convince more OEMs that Windows Touch Technology is going to drive their sales.”,

and conclude that unhappy Vista customer were only caused by

"neither Windows Vista nor Apple’s Leopard interfaces have met with universal user approval for the simple reason that Microsoft and Apple are trying too hard to emulate each other’s UI. Micorsoft tried too hard to appeal to users interested in a Mac-like experience, and Apple was too intent on making Leopard appealing to Windows switchers, my Mac-using chum posited." -

then I must say this sounds very stupid and self-deceiving, and that it is almost a threat for more damage being done in the future.

Must I start to plan skipping Windows 7 as well...?

Might prove to be difficult.

MS doesn't have to learn anything. They own the desktop market. They can create as much cr*p as they wish because there is nothing out there to compete with it. Vista is a prime example, Windows ME is also a great example. Both are/were flawed, buggy, bloated and generally run like cr*p. Nothing slows down a fast computer quite like Windows.

Some may say that the Macs and Linux distros like Ubuntu are alternatives, and they are to some extent. However, neither has programs as widespread as MS for getting their OS and products into institutions and schools, a prime source of "future users".

In my career as an IT professional, I installed MS-based systems and applications exclusively in a number of school districts. We did use LINUX for mail server applications in one or two instances, but never desktops.

To quote the Borg: "Resistence is futile. You will be assimilated".

DeepIron is correct sadly. They have no incentive to improve their quality of service and products for the consumer. Putting out a crappy, memory hogging OS like Vista could have been predicted. I was skeptical when Vista was released. Remember Windows ME? What a bad experience for me.

And now, I can forget about getting Vista for all it's apparent problems. The only way the'll learn is by taking a hit in the pocketbook. But it will have to be drastic as MS has very deep pockets. It will be XP for me for a few more years it looks like. And surprisingly, I'm fine with that.
