Patch Problems

My DVD version of SH3 installs as version 1.4. I remember patching it to 1.4b (wy back in the day). I downloaded the patch (v1.4b DVD US) from UBI but when I run, the install says "you are now about to patch SH3 v1.0 to v1.3, and then the installer crashes when it fails to detect the correct version of SH3. Anyone else have this problem? I'm reluctant to blame UBI, I'm certain it must be something I'm doing wrong.

Try re-downloading the patch. It might be corrupted.

If that fails, use your game disk to perform a FULL uninstall...

Go into your Program Files/Ubisoft folder and delete any residual "SilentHunterIII" files... and delete the "SH3" folder in "My Documents."

Then reboot.

Then go through the installation process again.

(Something similar happened to me and Jimbuna once. Uninstalling with the disk removes hidden residual SH3 files and basically hits the 'reset' button for you in a manner of speaking.)

K, I followed your steps, uninstalled via disk, removed the Ubi directory tree, and got rid of the SH3 folder in MyDocuments.

Rebooted and started another install. The install is hung up at "removing backup files" after having apparently installed all of the required components correctly. After waiting in vain for five minutes i clicked "cancel" but nothing happens. I'll repeat the above steps until I get the results I'm looking for, but more suggestions would be welcome.

Update--- Terminated the installer via task manager and got the error "failed to install. Error # 1628"
None of the game shortcuts showed up in the start menu. This is aggravating.

BTW, I would expect the text written in the 1.4b installer to reference v1.4b as the version one is uptading to, not 1.3? The only part of the program that seems to reference v1.4b seems to be the installer's filename.

Got the right patch for the version ya running?

Thought I had once but something jibber jabbered in the download and ended up being the wrong version and/or corrupt. Try a different mirror for downloading

With all of the mirrored sites I get the same result.

The filename is:

silent_hunter_3_dvd_1.4b_us.exe

But when the install screen appears it says i'm going from 1.0 to 1.3.

The readme file from the SH3 DVD install says i have v1.4. Is this actually 1.4b? Do I really need to install the patch? Does it patch from 1.4 to 1.4b?

I do not know where you come from but for Europe you must downlaod de Emea patch 1.4b. hope this helped.

Run the stock version, if it says 1.4 on the load screen you should already have 1.4 on the DVD. I'm not sure but I heard some of the dvd's came as 1.4

There is a glitch in the installer for the patch. It shows v1.3 but it loads 1.4 okay. If you start the game you can see the version in the lower right corner. This is coming up a lot right now because of the un/re-installing for GWX2.
