Default rar file

I have an old laptop for watching movies & playing sh3 standard version with only commander on it. no gwx because it bearly runs with just the standard install of sh3.
anyway, I am trying to improve the sound quality, if possible. I can't hear the voices because the sound is just like standing next to a huge water falls. that is all I hear...just a roar.. kinda makes it not worth playing..
so I downloaded this sounds improvement.rar from U-boot.realsimulation.com
it is just a file I guess. What the hell do I do with this thing? there is no readme.
I can't find any rar files to replace so what would I do with this thing to make it work so I can see if it makes any difference?

A rar file is a zipped file. You must un-zip it.

Try right clicking the rar and see if you have an 'extract' option. Either WinRar or 7-Zip or something

I usually extract to a folder just in case there are a lot of individual files.

Also: May not be what happened to your sound but I recentally realized that if I took a screen shot (not the built in SH3 screen shot option - just my regular PC one) from the external camera view - it would go to desk top to complete the screen shot - and when I returned to SHIII I would have that 'waterfall' sound.

Seriously if you just hear a roar then a sound mod will not do a single thing. Sounds like you have a major sound card fault or driver problem, consider getting a new laptop. A mod like that will only change the sound clips for each event to something different and "better" sounding in the creators opinion.

I was wondering about that "rar" being zipped, but it doesn't have an extract option. I guess my ms unzip option won't work.
this is a used 3 year old laptop that has excellent sound on any movie that I have played on it. I have to use headsets to hear, but it is fine.
the game sound is the problem. Even on my main computer with the GWX mod the sound is not what I consider good...lol..
I have the particle turned down to 30% and the quality unchecked so I would just puke an any picture that I took...lol

Nope, this is just for Sat & Sunday night at work. I work nights & there is no one here but me, so I play a little SH3 on it...Got other things I need more then another laptop just to play sh3 on twice a week...lol..

I guess there is just nothing that I can really do but be content with what I do have...
Thanks for your imput...
