Where do you think the XXI exhaust is?
Ok If looked at some websites and found a various photos of XXI. Its hard to find where they have an exhaust port.
Racerboy asked me where was the exhaust port on the XXI model. So I look around and tried to find the most detail photos that might help him. I originally posted some links and ideas to Racerboy. So if any of you have any theories or knowledge where those ports are please post it here. Lets help Racerboy put out another amazing mod to the collection. http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazin..._uboot_xxi.htm This site has the best details pics for XXI electroboat. http://news.webshots.com/album/29971249IpTqhIHOVO http://news.webshots.com/photo/10299...1453yDYCvMdAry http://news.webshots.com/photo/10941...33241453YUaJGb http://news.webshots.com/photo/10940...33241453DVKXIt http://image09.webshots.com/9/1/62/2...8zuDXys_ph.jpg I think they used the snorkel as a chimney even when it wasn't submerged. But I'm probably wrong. ![]() What do you think or know? ![]() |

I think the exhaust was vented from the conning tower rear (actually watch tower level). Also, IIRC the model in SH3 actually has a vent on the conning tower but I'm not sure, never really used the 21.
I think this shows the exhaust system. ![]() Clickety-Click ![]()

I would instead say that the exhaust is here (Marked in the green circle in this 1945 picture) : ![]() and you can check that still nowadays in the Wilhelm Bauer, although the plates around the hole were modified in post war.:hmm:

It would be more practical to have it in the conningtower like the diagram shows. When your in rough waters you don't loose your engines.:hmm: I'm just saying. ![]() |

![]() ![]() Lokks like the exhaust was on the conning tower, according to this section of Blueprint there is something labeled "Dieselabluftmast" It's the bottom item listed in front of the periscopes, my German is really rusty but I believe that translates to "Diesel exhaust mast" Hope this helps

The "Dieselabluftmast" is part of the snorkel system. So it's not the diesel exhaust while running on the surface. Looking at the plans for the Type XXI now but no luck in finding the surface running exhaust. Will continue to look at my book.

Found the exhaust ports. Hitman was right on the money. The exhaust ports are in the green circle (on both sides). The exhaust ports are under the waterline according to my diagrams. :hmm: So...can you still see the exhaust if it's under the waterline?

If i could design the hip i would put it in two places. the first is the diesel room so the fuel exhuast can get out and they second should be for all subs. the bathroom. yes thats right becuase i do not want a smelly boat after Bernard takes a crap on my boat. man does that thing smell and the DDs can smell it too.

Thanks guys for you input.
Ok I'm not saying you guys are wrong. How does it work to have the exhaust below the water line? Ok I get the point to hide the smoke value to help cloak you. I get that. But how does it prevent water from entering and exhaust from exiting? Anyhow If Hitman is right. I will have to add that texture to the skins I'm almost ready to release. |

Thanks to everyone for providing the information here! With this information I was able to bring the exhaust mod for the XXI to life (will be releasing here very soon):
