Dear Neal

Is it possible that we, those who may be interestet, make a donation to a, I don´t know what the english name for it is. It´s a round thing made of spruce and some other things from trees and decoratet and a white banner attached to it, made of silk(or something like it) with a text like "Rest in peace-from your friends at subsim"

I know that it can be difficult to arranged something like that, because wich time will the funeral be, when and will it be an open funeral or a closed one(only the chief mourner will attend)

Alternative: anyone who wants contribute to a non-denominational Dutch charity that everyone can agree with and send a condolence letter to his family of the contribution made in his memory.

I don´t know if it's possible, that those who live in the Netherland and knew him, get the donation and buy a beutiful wreath and attend at the funeral(if it's possible)

I'd be willing to throw in a few bucks for that. Perhaps Neal could volunteer his "make a donation" to collect from those that want to partake.

Hello people,

Me and Angel(Jolanda) were playing with idea to let his family know what the subclub (subsim) meant to him and also what he meant to the subsim community.

We were watching television on the 10th and we both said... uhm doesnt he look exactly like Abraham who was at the subclub meeting 2005 and several times in our house. We didnt think it was possible that abraham and the guy on television where the same person.

Today I checked the subclub forum and found the post of Dargo and connected the dots by comparing the pictures of the meeting and the ones in the newspapers online.

It will be difficult to find the adres of the next of kin but we want to see if it is possible. We remember him as a intelligent, well spoken guy who knew a lot about a lot of things. It is shocking to find out that he died the way he did.

Don't get me wrong, I do not wish to bust the meeting, but Abraham and me had several PMs and emails over time, sometimes chatting, sometimes fighting, and at one opportunity and in a very different context he said that instead of buying wreaths when somebody was dying he would prefer to see the money spend on a life belt and then saving somebody in the water - in the end, he said, "both things would be round with an empty hole in the middle." That conversation was longer time ago. Don't misunderstand me, please, but you get the idea of what he said (half serious, half joking). So, instead of buying a wreath you could also contribute your money for a good cause, even in your local place - and in Abraham's name/for his sake. I'm sure he would have liked that better.

A wreath or flowers doesn't do someone who has died much good. However, it does show his parent/brother/sister etc that he was well thought of by an international community. A community that cares enough to do this small thing. I would think this would help support them in a small way. It's all about the living.

btw all. I've contacted DutchNews to see if they can help. I'll post if and when I get a reply.

No problem, I understand where you're coming from. I'm more interested in a gesture to his family, to console them. But I'll follow the wishes of the group here.

I was thinking more in the way that we should collect the pictures we have of him and send those to his family. Because there are some very nice pictures among them.

I agree with Skybird. It is common to notify a deceased relatives that a donation has been made to whatever cause is selected in memory of their lost one. That card stands a chance of being placed in a memorial album.

A wreath and its memory withers and dies faster, with the florist being the major beneficiary.
